There are two, 6 position contact plugs at the electrical module on top of the engine. Each one has the 6th terminal empty, ready to take the grounding wire from the Magneto to the ignition start switch for shutting down the engine.
I have the terminals for the wires to connect into these two empty terminals. My question is this.
Do the 6 position plugs need to be removed from the electric module before inserting my wires. Or can the wires simply inserted into the holes while the plug is still connected to the module.
I have inserted a terminal into the hole as a test and it will pull back out fairly easily which suggests to me that this is incorrect.
i have tried to remove the plug from the module so that I can hook it up more easily but I find it impossible to remove. Ive never seen it separated so I'm not sure where the split line is. Can someone advise, Thanks......Geoff

Geoff,
If you don't get an answer here, I suggest you address this question to the
Rotax group (rotaxengines-list(at)matronics.com). You will need to join that
group just as you did with the 701-801 group.
Les

Thanks Les. I already posted a copy on the Rotax list. Nothing there yet.
Interesting point you brought up though. I only joined one group ever, that was the original Zenith list. I dint join any others but I can post to all with the same Log on.

To get the plug apart there is a small tab to push while you are pulling it apart. It comes off easily enough if you find the correct tab to push. Then wire the Mag wire to a terminal as per the picture Geoff or Brian posted, then push the terminal into the plug till it clicks, then plug the plug back in. Don't push the terminal into the plug till you have wired and soldered it as you might not be able to get it out again. Wire it up first! Then wire the other end of the mag wire to the mg switch you are going to use.

The Tab on top seems to be completely unmovable. This is why I sought help. I assume there would be a tab on the opposite side also, which would be on the bottom. I can't even SEE it because the two plugs sit so close to each other...Geoff

Yes, the little tab is hard to see and figure out. When you push it down
don't get frustrated like I did and inadvertently break the little
crosspiece of plastic that holds the tab. This is why I had to solder new
plugs on in the first place. Because I screwed up and pushed too hard and
pried on the little piece of plastic that holds the tab instead of just
pushing down on the tab. They are similar to regular automotive plugs so
if you have a mechanic buddy, get him to show you how to do it. That's what
I ended up doing.

Thanks to all. I did go back at it and finally got the little $(at)*%#$## off.
First I pushed (hard) the entire assembly (2 modules) in the aft direction to slip the both of them off the metal bracket. That gives good access to them both.
NOTE: viewed as installed there are three (3) tabs on mine. One on top, one to port or stbd, I forget, and one on the bottom. I actually got the top one apart after accidentally breaking the top one. It was still difficult to get the other 2 because when you get one eased off the tab and go to the other the first one returns to the locked position. You need 3 hands. For the other (bottom) one I intentionally cut off the same top tab first. now I can CLICK a terminal in and out...Thanks for the help.....Geoff
