				Hi Gary,

Yes, I am definitely interested. These will be really great cowlings for the
4 place grummans and I could use 2 of them right now. However, I am still
waiting for a response from you concerning when you anticipate being able to
 deliver.

Since you brought this up publicly, you have mentioned privately that you
will refund deposits if you are unable to deliver the STC according to a
time schedule. Are you willing to say this publicly, now, as well?

 Best Regards,
 Ned

  	  | Quote: | Hey Ned, speaking of, are you still interested in saving some money and
  put a
down payment on the new cowling. Or, are you going to wait until the
  price
  goes up?

  Offer expires on Friday, 3/17/06.

Just in case you all wanted to get in on the cowling deal. The first 5
cowlings will be sold at $6,000 each. The catch is, I get to put them
  on. Why?
I've been trying to write an installation manual for the cowling. It's
pretty involved. Certainly not for the novice.

Ya know, Ned, you've been waffling on this since last summer. You're the
only one who is paranoid about the cowling not being delivered, "on time."
What is 'on time' anyway? I have over $50,000 invested in this. Do you really
 think I won't finish it.

And, that's fine. If you want to wait until all of the paperwork is done,
cool. I'll be able to send a cowling kit for you to fit and install. And,
rather than being guaranteed that the fit and finish will be as close to
perfect as possible (by having me install it; I've already installed 4 of them) you
can determine how you think it should fit.

Now, on another note, the eyebrow and cooling exit ramps are in the STC
process. Their cost will go up too, once I have those STCs in hand.

				Hey Gary,

 You say:

"you've been waffling on this since last summer"

 I don't view my non-comittment as waffling:

Some things were unclear and added to the deal from last summer..such as
your having to install the cowl at your place.

This makes it difficult for me as my bird needs a new cowl to be able to
fly....to get your cowl I have to rebuild one here and then fly 1400 miles
to have your new cowl installed.... let's see 20 hours flight time round
trip minimum times 10GPH times $3.80 per gallon fuel cost = $760. Add to
that traveling costs: time off work, hotels meals, your labor costs, etc.
and the savings for buying the cowl at $6000 instead of $7500 are gone. This
isn't even allowing for the cost to repair my existing cowl...

I have just about sent you the contracts and money several times just
because I'd like to help you out with getting the STC but it would be less
expensive for me to buy the cowl at the $7500 you mentioned and install it
here. I have considerable fiberglass experience and have installed 2 cowls
on an RV6 and RV9 so I don't think it will be any challenge I cannot handle
 quite well here.

I wouldn't mind sending you a deposit for a $6000 cowl that you can ship to
 me for local installation....

Or why don't you just sell me a cowl now and I'll get it installed and
 approved locally and go fly...?

 Best Regards,
 Ned

---------- First of all, that would never happen. The FAA doesn't do
 |
field approvals anymore without extensive APPROVED data. Second, you would have
to hire a DER and get a one time STC on it if I did send a cowling. That
would cost you an extra $5000 or so. And, third, I'm not going to be sending
any proprietary information required by the DER.

It sounds like you'd be best served by getting a completed, STC'd cowling.
If you're buying two STC'd cowlings, there would be some cost savings.

This is an interesting discourse and sounds a bit emotionally
charged. As a matter of curiosity, in developing installation
instructions is there a difference between installing 5 cowlings or
 installing 1 cowling 5 times?

LOL, ah, well, yes there is. Apparently, you've never purchased and tried
to install, say, window side mouldings for example. I have never seen side
mouldings installed correctly by the average airplane owner. Look at the
pictures of the Cheetah advertised on GG. The rear side mouldings are installed
OVER the seat belt mountings. Not only that, they weren't trimmed properly
around the cabin entrance. There are no instructions that come with the trim.

The cowling is made in tooling that is larger than the part. It is done
this way so that the fiberglass can be layed up properly at the edges. There
are scribe lines in the tooling, but, they are only for reference. One of=20the
hardest parts on the cowling installation will be fittiing the baffles and
baffle seals around the inlets. Most installations have a 1 inch or greater gap
between the baffle and the cowliing. The gaps on mine are very tight (3/8
inch) on the side that doesn't move much, and a 1/2 inch on the other side.=20 I
can just see someone installing the cowling and having CHTs in the 450s or
higher because they didn't install the cowling and baffles correctly. Then all
the bitching and moaning that would take place ......

 Hi Jim,

I will be doing the Traveler next. The problem is the intake. I need to
come up with a way to work around the Cheetah carb inlet. As soon as I get
the wheel pants done, and maybe the wing tips, I'll start working on a solution
to the carb inlet on the Cheetah.

Why will I do the Traveler first? Because I think I can modify the Traveler
air box to make it work with my cowling a lot easier than I could the Cheetah
 air box.

Well, I'm off to change a flap switch and then repaint a firewall.
