I’m looking at adding a landing light integrated in the slat on my CH701. I’m looking for information about the approximate pointing angle for the light. I’d like to get the approximate angle relative to the wing cord or some other reference. This would take into account an average angle of attach during landing. Does anyone have any idea?

Be a lot easier if you took the slats off and added VGs. Take care,

Curt,
I did the what you are contemplating, works great with the light in the
slat. I put the light in so that it can be adjusted up or down so I would
not have to fix the angle until the plane was ready to fly. I put it on the
inside of the outside slat so it would be easy to get to and stay outside
the prop arch. I made a lexon cover the same shape as the slat by heating it
to 300-degrees in my oven over a mold that was a piece of slat. If you took
the slats off you would need to put the light in the wing. I would think
twice about doing this because the light gets hot and gas could easily get
into the wing when refueling.
Les
PS: keep the slats, they work great!

I recall pictures somewhere of landing lights built into the slat. Were they
yours Les?

Not Les, but I have bent a lot of lexan. Just use a heat gun and warm
it with pressure toward the way you want to bend it. When it gets warm
enough it will bend. It is very important that you keep the heat moving
back and forth on the bend. If you let it stop or get too hot, it will
distort. Try a couple of small pieces first, nothing to it. Larry, N1345L

Les,
Thanks for the info about bending the lexan. I was wondering how hot I
would need to get it. I'll make sure the wife is not around when I try
that.
I'm building the slats from scratch now so I have access to the innards.
I'm going to put in at least one extra rib to hold the lamp bracket. I've
already put the wire for the light in the wing. I plan to mount the lamp in
a gimbal so I can adjust where it points. I'm still hoping someone knows
approximately what works for the angle so I can minimize the window I put in
the slat.

Let's not start the VG wars again. To the question; I am planning on HID landing and taxi lights on my 701. I am going to install them on the UC near the centerline of the fuselage, one will point down the runway for taxying the other will be aimed toward the runway for a typical nose up landing angle.
