HI KIDS..
I just returned from delivering a 560E from Commander Services, Stockton CA (SCK) to Hollywood FL, (HWO). This is the same Commander I brought down from Wasilla Alaska last summer. That was a long day as well. I did the entire trip in one day. I departed the Portland Or (PDX) airport on Alaska Airline early that morning. Flew to Anchorage (ANC). Took a cab to Merrill Field, the GA airport serving Anchorage where the seller picked me up in a Maule and flew me to his private dirt strip. After a preflight, I flew the Commander to the main Wasilla airport for fuel. Then, non stop to Kechican AK. Topped off again, I flew nonstop, across Canada, to my home near Portland, arriving just before midnight. I slept in my own bed that same night.
Anyway, I left Stockton about noon last Monday, climbed to 11.5 then "drifted up" to 14.5 to cross the Sierra Nevada range. Back down to 13.5Stayed just South of Tonnapa (sp) NV to keep clear of all the restricted airspace north of vas Vegas (area 51??) Flew to Double Eagle airport in Albuquerque NM, 4hr 15 min. (There is BRAND NEW control tower there, only open about a month, oops). Landed at dusk. Topped off and flew to Jackson Mississippi (JAN) 4hr 45min. Landed at midnight and spent the night. I love flying at night. When was crop dusting, almost all the flying was a night and I miss it. I dont get enough night time these days. I departed Double Eagle at 5:15, not very late but VERY dark and made a climbing right turn back over the airport and on course. I was at 9500 feet and able to climb over the ABQ airspace. Climbed to 11.5 and easily cleared the mount ain range east of ABQ. Then, just a little south of Amarillo TX with Lubic(sp) clearly in view to the south. Next was the metropolis of Dallas TX. I was 40 or so miles north but the urban sprawl was amazing. i like to use a flashlight to look at the engine nacelles at night checking for oil leaks, gear droop etc. No need here. The lights from the city below illuminated the underside of the airplane beautifully, it was truly awe inspiring, wonderful to see. Next came Shreveport and then on the Jackson. I stayed a 11.5 and had smooth air and a bit of a tail wind, 180-185kts over the ground. The tower closed at midnight but the airport was well lit. To well. The high intensity lights were almost blinding on flair.
The next day it was more fuel a 4.0 hors to HWO. The old geared engine ran smooth as butter. Caught an afternoon flight back and was home by 10pm. just another day at the office!! Hope everyone has a wonderful new year!! jb Get a free MP3 every day with the Spinner.com Toolbar. Get it Now.

G’day Jimbob,
Thanks for sharing...what a great way to ‘usher out 2008’!
Happy new year to all and may 2009 be the best yet...remember down here in Oz we have already survived 14 months of ‘the change’...just remember do not be enveloped by the fear doctors!
Hell...fuel is so cheap down here again I keep thinking the bowser has cracked up
Cheers from Oz

It has wheels and are either tugged around or driven around, looking for
aircraft that needs fuel.
Where does the word come from? Certainly British, but where in that corner?

It's a "Kleenex" vs. "tissue" sort of thing - a trade name has been
incorporated into the everyday term for the object regardless of
manufacturer. ("Hoover" vs. "vacuum cleaner" for those in the UK)
Collins has the definition of:
bowser (n) 1. a tanker containing fuel aircraft, military vehicles, etc. 2.
Austral. and N.Z. a petrol pump at a filling station. [originally a U.S.
proprietary name, from S.F. Bowser, American inventor, who made the first
one in 1885]
Now the definition of 'petrol' is... no, just kidding.
Happy New Year, everyone. May this year be much better than last!
God bless,
Andrew
