[quote]So, I’m almost to the point where I can refurb the other airplane, an IAR823. It has been sitting for awhile, and the engine ran sort-of high oil temps before anyway. So I think I want to overhaul its (Lycoming IO540 G2D5) engine. I want a good job, but mainly am interested in keeping the cost down, but quality up. If cost was no object I could go with one of those gold-plated victor rebuilds, but I’d rather go for plain but good. Does anyone have a engine shop they would recommend? Bruce [b]

The flying club that I was in used Signature Engines, Inc.at Lunken Airport, Cincinnati, OH 513-871-9966, See adv inTrade-a-plane.
They stock a IO-540-E1B5 engine that is on the 500B,U or S with the up exhausts.
Not sure what a G2D5 is?
The club used the Lyc on the Cessna 172 and put a pair of Cont IO-520 on a Baron. That was about $25-26K each.
Only problem was one oil dip stick was not marked correctly. it showed 10 Quarts but there was only 7 quarts in it. It would drop oil pressure at odd times as the oil unported the pickup. They found it the problem and all was well. Some one did not count the quarts going in and only looked at the dip stick.
