Hi Guys, I have just received the Polyfiber catalogue in the mail and am wading through the things I will and wont need. As Im only recovering the wings can I get some advise from those of you who have recovered yours as Im not sure how much of each product I will need. The quantities that I have roughly estimated are; 1 quart Poly-Tak, 1 gallon Poly-Brush, 1 quart Poly-Spray, 2 quarts Poly-Tone. Also 3", 2" and 1" tape for leading and trailing edges and false ribs. Someone mentioned on the list just recently that its a good idea to order 50% more than estimated. Is this really necessary?.
Thanks guys
Graeme

Your going to be short. I figure a gallon of brush, spray and paint per
wing, and a gallon of each for the fuselage. That will not fill the
weave but will give you good protection and a nice looking paint. You
might not use every last bit, but you will come close. Skystar used to
provide 5 gallons of Poly-spray for the entire plane, and I usually used
about 4. You will use a little less than a quart of Tak per wing if you
pre coat, which I believe in, but one for both will come up short. I
think that the most important part of a good paint job is the
poly-brush. You can iron out any brush marks on the first coat only,
after that you have to wipe out bad spots with MEK and start over. The
poly spray you can sand, and the paint shows everything under it. Brush
marks left in the poly brush will always show. The Polyfiber line is MEK
based. Take the precautions seriously. It is good stuff and safe if you
do, but it will do you all sorts of no good if you do not. I like
invisible glove, lots of ventilation and a good organic solvents mask
when spraying.
Try and find a local dealer for Polyfiber products. The hazardous
shipping expense is nuts. They get it truck shipped and a you don't have
to pay the add on expense.

Great advise Allan, thats exactly the type of info I need at this point. I
really thought the paint would go further when diluted with Reducer. This
stuff is to expensive to make mistakes. Im not sure what you mean by
"pre-coat", before applying the Tak. Can you explain this point further?.
Regards
Graeme

Sorry Graeme! Just saw this. The 50% was sort of a joke. (See winky
face.) However in my experience you'd be surprised how often it's true. I
definitely wouldn't buy less than 25% more than I estimated.

Thanks Guy, you had me worried for a while there.
Cheers
