At a recent SYI visit we had a discussion of the possible interest for a Lightning Logo patch suitable for sewing on a jacket or other clothing item. In a moment of weakness with Buz twisting my arm, I volunteered to work on this suggestion.

Nick is reviewing available artwork, but the design is wide open. I'm definitely not artistic, so I need your help.

Send suggestions to me at the e-mail address above. And tell me if you are interested in purchasing one. No price info yet, but the patches being done for one of my old squadrons came in at about $8 per.

I'll be at SNF on Friday looking for comments.

Just a thought.  Hank Williamson C the airport manager at SYI is very artistic.  He also judges a statewide childrens art competition and uses his base of operations to sign kids up.  Recently the Soyuz TMA-14 crew patch http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/6/68/Soyuz-TMA-14-Mission-Patch.png  was determined by having children design a patch.  The astronaut C cosmonaut C touristnaut then judged and picked the one that they liked the best.  You could turn this into a competition that could be advertised on the Arion C SYI C and Jim's website.  You could have a downloadable form with guidelines and where to mail it.  You could then take a stack of 50 or so up to the FBO and have Hank to advertise it.  You could then have Arion pick which they like the best.

Added bonus of this C not that most owners probably care C but we need to get more of us younger guys interested in this aircraft.  Right now I feel like it's kind of like if only guys 60 (no offense) and older knew about a Corvette.  Now I want to have a Vette when I'm 60 and older C but I wanted one when I was 20 too!  People that have young kids are probably a generation younger than the current average owner age.  Once the news gets out to that generation they're gong to want to have a fast C sleek C and fun airplane too!

Just a thought.  How are you doing after your replacement Earl?  Brian W.

Brian,

Thanks for the suggestions. I didn't know about Hank's artistic abilities.

My hip is doing great.

Yes C Hank is quiet the artist.  He has even had people hire him to do paintings for them.  I think that he keeps some photos in his office of some of his paintings and drawings. Next time you're out that way you should check it out.  Some are a little more risque.  I think he also did a painting that was in the women's restroom there.  Every year he gets a group of school children together to show them his planes and answer questions about flying.  The have some people talk C show them some things C and then he had all of them a Styrofoam airplane and they got to paint it however they wanted.  He also designed the "Right Attitude" SYI Logo.  Let me know what you guys come up with C I'll want a patch whenever you get some.  Good to hear that you're back on your feet again.  Take care.  Thanks C Brian W.
