Roger, where do you get your Otiker clamps and tools?

I like them but unless I carry the (large and heavy) crimping tool in the
plane field repairs look difficult.

Here is just one link to get Otiker clamps and pliers. I usually just buy the kit with the pliers and an assortment of single ear band clamps. Then when I need replacement clamps I order them separately.
There are other websites that have Otiker clamps and pliers. For just an emergency field repair I only carry the worm drive clamps so it will fit different hose applications. When you get home you replace it with the proper band clamp.

Ivor Phillips(G-IVER)put me onto a Halfords(UK)part made by Laser
Engineering, a cable operated remote applicator to work spring
clips,(part No. 4024) No need for fingers and hands to do the gynecology
thing. I had to slightly modify it for the large water hose clips. See:-
www.lasertools.co.uk
It is covered by US Patent 6,370,985,B1. and described as Hose Clamp
Pliers, Long Reach.
I modified mine by increasing the grab lip depth to 1/4" which then
caters for the larger diameter spring clip.

Roger:

I fly an Allegro 2000 ELSA with a 912UL engine, and I use normal screw/gear
type clamps on my fuel lines without having any problems. The lines are fire
sleeved. Each clamp screw head is color marked after tightening so to
indicate if any loosening of the screw has occurred. These are checked prior
to each flight. I have been flying this plane for about 2 years and I have
not had a screw clamp loosen. In your opinion, what justifies the use of the
Otiker type clamps (two clamp points per clamp) over the type I am using?
Also getting access to the numerous Otiker double clamp points on my plane
with the pliers would be very difficult, if not impossible at some points,
on the small 912 engine that is congested with coolant lines, fuel lines,
wires, and other devices on the engine.

Hi Hugh,

Ever seen a Rotax engine from the factory with screw clamps on any fuel line or fire sleeve?
I don't use a double eared Otiker clamps. I only use the single ear clamp, much easier to handle especially in tight areas. I'll have to find and get back to you on the publication where they want band clamps and not screw clamps on fuel lines and fire sleeve. I keep my resource books at the hanger. This is also taught in newer Rotax classes.
