I have a few questions. My cable thimbles are worn quite a bit. How have others attached the stabilzer cables. They have the thin 16ga or so tab where the cable thimble rides on. I was thinking of going to a small clevis just so there's more "meat" there. Also, how much tension should there be on these cables?
Thanks,
Tony

BTW, solo'd last night for the first time and it felt great. 6 more T and L's and 1.5 hrs of solo and i'll have my ultralight permit.

Sorry, did a search for the thimbles and found my answers. What size of turnbuckle would people recommend for this?

Tony:

Those tabs and cable thimbles have always been high wear items because they
were not meant to be used as we use them on our Kolbs.

Somebody has a photo of the system I came up with, some years ago, that put
a stop to that problem. I have had tabs wear all the way through thimbles
to the cable before I discovered the problem.

I am in a bit of a rush, at the moment. Try doing a search of the Kolb List
Archives for tail wire bracing, etc., if someone does not have ready access
the the photo.

Congratulations on your solo. Always an adrenalin rush and a feeling of
significant accomplishment. For me, anyhow. Wink

Take care,

john h

John H.

What size cable did you use on your tail brace wires ? You mentioned that you went to 1/8 inch on the elevator up cable, has anyone ever used 1/8 cable on the tail brace wires ?

Let me think, 2400 hours, flying in conditions I would not even taxi in, and carrying more weight doing it than I ever have.... If 3/32 is good enough for you, its good enough for me ! I put in my order for new cable today Smile

Thanks John
