All
Europa Aircraft has claimed since 1993 their planes have "a good short strip capability".
I confirm: Today - few hours ago - I landed to the EFTO
https://ais.fi/ais/vfr/aerodromes/EFTO.html
That is a 360 metres (from ditch to ditch) grass strip (27-09) 50 km west from Helsinki Finland.
That is permitted only for ultra lights but please do not tell FCAA I was there.
Landing: contact to the earth about 1/4 from the fence, stop 1/4 before the end of the strip.
That means less than 200 metres (only moderate brakes and some of you know I prefer real fast in final).
Take off: we used less than 2/3 of the runway - that means less than 240 metres.
Weather: total calm, temperature +20C, almost sea level, QNH 2018 mbar.
Plane: near MTOW and that means in RTīs case about 645 kgs (1419 lbs), engine 912S,
CS-prop (Airmaster with Warp Plades and 5700 engine revs).
Strip: grass 10 cm (=4 inches), quite wet (because it was almost night), base strenght moderate, 27 right side (because they claimed that side is harder!).
"a good short strip capability".
- thatīs true in my mind!
Short and safe landings,
Raimo from Finland

Raimo,
I have done very similar landing on a deer strip at Woodbury NZ which had 300 meters available and
an electric fence down one side!! We stopped in about 250 meters. It had a high deer fence at the threshold as well.
Speed back to 50kts over the fence, put it on and little braking.
Take off was no problem with a constant speed propeller. If fact ,at the same weight, like the Boeing 767, you can always take off
from a strip you have landed on.
Certainly a good STOL performance with the Europa.
Cheers,
Tim

Tim
You mentioned a word "deer strip".
I have visited in Finnish Lappland several times EFAA "Aavahelukka".
That is an asphalt strip in nowhere - that is a total wild and unpopulated area.
Reindeers like to spend their day on the warm asphalt and it is very difficult to make them understand "go away - I am going to land". They usually do not care any low flybyes even.
That is one function for my siren (horn) - they escape immediately after hearing that unexpected noise.
Say hello to Rob Waters in Auckland - my family still remember his kind hospitality during that very hot day there years ago.

This thread is funny as I have just finished constructing 850 feet that
eventually will connect to my friends runway of 3600 feet. For now he
has a 900 foot patch of dirt between us that need final grading and
seeding. I cut the new grass and took Gold Rush off on my 850 feet last
night for the first time. YEA!!!! Start to where she left the ground
was around 650 feet (912-S fixed pitch sensinich). After a short flight
I came around and flared about 200 feet before the start of the grass
on my friends unfinished dirt but held in a little power in ground
effect. 20 feet or so before I crossed the dirt & grass line I cut
power and she touched down on the grass perfect. With a little braking
she was stopped in 500 feet of short grass. To my surprise I had to
taxi the last 300 feet to get her back to my house. You guys are so
right. This bird is a real STOL plane when speeds are watched very
closely. If you have room to bleed it off and know your weight she'll
land on a dime.
