Mike P/Gang:

I monitor two email lists, this one and a nonaviation list. About all I can
handle.

I am one among many on the Kolb List and intend to keep it that way.

My experience indicates lists do best when they are self-policing and honor
the List Commandments that Matt Dralle post each month and none of us bother
to read. If each of us would read and comprehend these commandments, we
would not have to wade through a lot of unnecessary BS to get to the meat of
the List, which should be building and flying Kolbs, period.....

Thanks, but I'll stick to this List which I have been a member of since I
got my computer in 1998.

Mike, et al,

Respectfully submit:

While at times I share your frustrations with some post on the list, I'd hate to see the Kolb group splintered.

I too have been a member of the Kolb list since 1998. Not a volume contributor. Always thought I had a lot more to learn than to expound. The early days of the list were much more cordial. I think that was because the topics were mostly about putting planes together and flying. Not finite details like tweaking the last incremental performance out of a 60 to 75 mph airplane. We get into trouble when we dive off into discussions that require more theory and opinions than facts and actual Kolb flying. The list and group of Kolb flyers has grown.

As with any large group or gathering, hard to keep everyone happy and playing well together. Suspect that will eventually become an issue with any new list that is started.

Not everyone in this world agrees with me. As I get older, hardly anyone!

But I am grateful to this list and its contributors. With the help of this list, I was able to put together a nice flying machine, on my own, with no other outside assistance.

I'd venture to say, that any new list will eventually encounter the same difficulties unless it is strictly censored. Not a proponent of that. Another yahoo aviation group just went through the same turmoil (Bearhawk).

Challenge is to accept "darn diversity". Lot more good than bad!

So, I'll decline. Staying with this list. Appreciate your and others help along the way. Sorry, but just a few post don't get read completely, when they take a turn in the wrong direction. Try not to fuel the fire with a response. Like being married, gotta take the good with the bad, sometimes quietly.

Made some solid friends along the way. Lost some good ones in that time. Seen some exceptional places and flying of Kolb planes. Like the VG fly-off between John H and Richard P at the TNK homecoming. Different positions, but gentlemen at the same time. Tried to settle it with a demonstration and facts. I thought it was a tie. Takes skill and confidence to fly that slow at 100 to 150 feet the length of the runway. I'm not that good.

Aviating has a way of humbling us all eventually, at least in my personal experience. I'm patiently waiting.

Thanks to mostly all. Don't let the bad guys win! Fly more, type less!
Above all, stay safe!

I will also be staying. I think it would be best that this group stays
together as the very best source of Kolb information and help.

Mike/All

I just did a search on "Insurance" to find the post on the inexpensive
liability insurance that was posted a few years back. Within two minutes I
was able to find the exact post I was looking for. Your free site will not
have the archive and will likely not be able to build or search one. There
is more to a list than just starting out free and having censors.

Sorry for the additional post

I see no need for a new group... it just splits up the useful information
and will in the end have the same occasional issues with a few
individuals. And although I also belong to a number of yahoo groups, it's
MUCH easier to find information in the archives of this group.

Now, let's drop this tiresome subject and talk about something new and
non-controversial. I hear there's this stuff called Seafoam you put in
your engine, what do y'all think? Smile

I own a world wide Yahoo group of over 1200 members...Lots of photo
storage....since 2004.... I have two other moderators...and so
far...I have banned maybe two or three members..

Be sure to okay new members...that keeps the porn and
spammers away... ...If a prospective member does not include a
sentence or two as to why they want a membership...then I disallow ...

my suggestion is to remember that you have members from all over
the world . Their ideas and outlook may be and are often
different... One thing that can not be tolerated is name
calling...or country calling... I don't ban members for calling me
names by the way! Smile Better have a thick skin and a good sense of
humor... Herb
ps I think Hauck would be a good moderator for one... I may not
agree on all things...but I have a lot of respect for him... after
all ...I sat through his 10 hour "trip to Alaska slide presentation
at TNK"... still smarting over the wal mart ribbon( I think it is
sizing tape) thing however!! Smile Sometimes I call him a rusty ole
nut!! Smile Herb

I would like to turn the ownership over to someone like John or Richard.

If it doesn't work out... I'll just delete the site... no problem

But I think it's worth a try...

Hi John,
I can understand what your saying....
I have talked with others , who have started various "specialized"
forums for their "Type" of Kolb Aircraft.... Basically for the same reason...
Because the list "does" need policing.... or at least the threat of it...
I was hoping to get "you" on board... I would have gladly made you the
"owner" of the site.... There are people joining the site....Once I see
someone to take it over... I'll put them as owner....
at least it'll be source of info without the bickering...
Richard ( Old Poop )... I'd like to see you there... I know you'd make a
great Owner/moderator.... and you have the kind of Knowledge this
position would need....
You could still pop in the matronics site if you need a taste of it...

Gotta Fly...

Thanks but no thanks. Not interested in reinventing a perfectly good wheel.
This list may have occasional problems, and occasionally I'm one of them, so I will make a serious effort to work on patience. And now is probably a good time to apologize to Matt and the list for not having enough.
Let's all take a deep breath and just wait to see what the future holds.

Shalom.
