Help! In the process of removing an aileron cable, from my finished 601XL, a friend helping me had the string come off the end of the aileron cable. We spent the rest of the day trying to feed a piece of bailing wire in from the fuselage fairlead to the aileron bellcrank (to attach another string to). The weight of the wire pulls the wire down too low to pass through the lightening holes in the outboard ribs. The wire also bends when it hits an obstruction. I haven't tried an electrician's snake yet. Has anyone else has run into this problem and what worked? Thanks in advance!

<?xml:namespace prefix="v" /><?xml:namespace prefix="o" /><![endif]--> I've had that happen before. My solution was to go to the aviation department of Lowe's, and buy a ten foot length of 1/2" PVC pipe. It's cheap and effective.

Yes, I have used this method several times. I have a length of #10 electrical wire, with insulation on it. I straighten it as best as I can and turn the first foot up about 5°. Then I measure about a foot longer than I need on the other end and bend it 90° so I can keep the angle up to go through the lightening holes. Then it’s simply a matter of threading the “needle”. With two guys, it’s not too hard.

I bought a fiberglass-rod wire-running kit from Harbor Freight to pull some coax behind cabinets:

It is stiff enough to thread through an airplane wing and has a hook to pull a cable or string through. I think it will be useful for pulling wires through my wings. It turned out that one cabinet unit blocked off the space behind the cabinets, so I wasn't able to use the kit for the coax, but it looks like a decent product to me. At least it showed me I'd need to find another route for the coax.
