Well, actually they know I'm nuts. I wear an old set of aviation style
Peltor ANRs when mowing the lawn. The cords wore out a long time ago
but the ANR battery is actually in the ear cup. Very nicely designed
units - they fold up nicely, the battery in the cup, detachable cords -
but they just didn't perform all that well compared to the Bose I use
now. And the cords kept wearing out.

So I wear the Peltors when out in the yard and sometimes slip some
earbuds underneath for music. That really looks geeky!

They all know I'm nuts but fortunately I live in an airport community
where that's par for the course.

At least the neighbors don't look at you like you're nuts for mowing the lawn with an ANR headset on. Let's me listen to some music and keeps me from going deaf, well, from the lawnmower at least. Smile

Your methods beat watching the majority of my aviator friends (Over 50)
who wear costly and uncomfortable hearing aid to understand normal
speech. (It wasn't macho in the 70's and 80's to wear enhanced
protection. We have come far enough that the effort is worthy of the
Geeky neighbor comments. Soon enough they won't be able to hear the
mowers, blowers and other conveniences.

Keep up the auditory safety.

I am one of those types that didn't wear protection, generally speaking,
for their initial training. In 1970 during my first training flights, I
wasn't even aware that ear protection was an option. Understanding the
radio was a major challenge but seemed to be just another part of the art.

Maybe that's why I just flew gliders for so many years.
