As to commercial activities on this list.....................
Seems to me things are going along great with the list the way it is. People let people know about their products. A limited, targeted, special interest type commercial activity isn't a problem until it becomes spam (read that to mean repeated postings to where people get sick of it). Let people know what you got but don't make a nuisance of yourself with "advertising like" activities. I think that is the secret to a list like this. Most people want to know what's available out there but if it's pounded into their heads like a commercial it won't go over too well.

Gentlemen of the Yaklist (Nanchang list)

When I started to restore my cj6a 12 years ago and paid $1100 to get a part made that now retails for less than $100 Doug in usa Walt in canada and some others, I found these blokes on the red star pilots association as it was then called was a great help to me as I didn't know who would support these wonderful aircraft, to stop these blokes for advertising on the yak list what they have in stock is far more damaging then not having them advertise, very easy to hit the delete button if you want don't want to read the mail, I live in Australia which is a lot closer to china than you blokes and I have had parts supplied from Doug and others at very reasonable prices I think of us as a community of friends with a common interest so don't stuff up a good list.
Ps I have made a new friend in North Carolina because of this list.

Just a suggestion –

Create a thread dedicated to the commercial guys. They and ONLY they post on this thread – their contact info, parts available, etc. That way everyone can delete or search for that thread as needed. The key would be NOONE Else posting in that thread..

Just a thought..

Subject: Commerce

It has never been clear to me what the position of the list is in relation to commercial activities. On one hand I have seen that it is supposed to be a forum for exchange of ideas etc, and NOT for anything commercial, but on the other hand I see blatantly commercial postings.

Clearly I am myself in the Yak business, although fortunately do not have to live totally from it, but it does seem to me that there is a need for a "commercial" Yak list, where people can post products; aircraft; components etc.

I have no idea what people generally think of this - is it a good idea?

Personally, I think that we're all so specialized here in the Yak / CJ thread that we're probably all interested in pretty much everything that's commercially available in this category. I'm interested in both (tips and parts) and would prefer to not have look in two places. Of course repetitive stuff is a no-no, and it wouldn't work if it gets out of hand. If it gets posted once and someone misses it, others will clue him or her in. I think it works OK as it is.

Hi all,

I follow all your tought very carrefully.
I must say that knowing who can propose what is of great help anywhere in the world.
I enjoy knowing who has what  part and if I get annoyed I just hit the delete button.

I like this list just the way it is.

But I would like it anyway.

Kind regards

I agree with Eric. We're all in this together and if someone has a
service or product that would be of value to a CJ or YAK owner, it's
clearly something worthwhile to know about. This is such a specialized
and small part of the aviation community, I think that anything posted
about these airplanes is worth seeing. And to be made to go to a
separate list for this would, at the very least dilute the forum and
more than likely be a complete waste of time. If Doug, with his unique
experience that can serve as filter for the rest of us, says that xyz
fuel totalizer works great for the CJ, that's something worth knowing.

I must say that sharing tips and also sharing sources for parts is THE reason that I read YAK matronics. As these aircraft become older, parts are becoming more and more difficult to find and we need to explore every avenue together. I'm concerned that we may see a time we these YAK parts just wont be available. Even now, I have written numerous vendors for parts with no luck.  Converting to use western parts (for me) is not the answer. I'm struggling to find NOS parts and its not easy. thanks for letting me vent.

Any post for parts or service with the statement "Contact me off-list for further information" should be satisfactory. I for one am happy to see such postings. And I am fairly certain most people on this list are glad to know where parts or a service related to our specialized aircraft can be found. If it is or becomes spam, it can easily be blocked by Matt Draile.

Group,

Personally, I do not like to see shotgun approach to selling parts on the list.

I do not mind seeing someone saying, I have parts
for sale, contact me off list.
Or someone who has developed a new product for our aircraft.

But then I also get tired of seeing post with "I agree with you".
Those should be sent to the individual email address.

As a bit of an outsider by putting a Huosai engine in a homebuilt, my comments might be
taken as a bit obscure, but generally I think the list is pretty much of good value "AS IS " ,
to the majority of the audience. Every time the Sapp's , Saverese's et al post something,
there's good advice and a legit direction to get your stuff up and flying again with the least
amount of downtime. The Overseas input is good too and it helps to keep a broader view
of this nice little world we live in. I'd say leave things alone. Two lists vying for the same
audience might shortly evolve into double posts anyway....who needs that ?
