Everything you need to know about these two Alodine products is at

http://www.loctiteaero.com/Images/Datasheet_PDF/hst_alodine1200s.pdf

and

http://www.aerospace.henkel.com/Images/Datasheet_PDF/hst_alodine1201.pdf

The most significant difference is that the 1201 contains hexavalent
chromium, the stuff of Erin Brockovich fame, and purported to be harmful to
various animals, us included. Several years ago I bought a small bottle of
the 1201 from Aircraft Spruce but it may not longer be available.

It appears that the two products are functionally equivalent, based on a
quick read of these two documents.

Richard,

May not be available in the U.K., but I found that the only self etching
primer that bonded well was the "Marhide" brand.
I got this at the local Pittsburgh Paint auto body supply store.
Other brands, including Pittsburgh's own in house brand really did not
work.

Bob,
Thank you for the info. Looks like Alodine is Strong suff in many ways.
This may not be the best way to go. I'm also looking as Etch Primer which
is readily available from local auto paints company. Has any one used
these spray paints?

Thanx
Richard Wheelwright.

Richard,

I've used the etch-type auto primers on aluminum signs, without a
problem. These signs see the sun, all day...
