Hi! Peter, William and all interested.
I published some photos of my flap close outs a long time go similar to
Peters suggestion.(See attached above and See http://www.crix.org.uk ....go
to "Bob Harrison's Europa G-PTAG" and look under "Flap Slot Cover") The
tapered hole enables easier one man assembly of the wings to the aircraft in
that it guides the flap drive shaft and aligns the drive pins to the drive
tube and bearings. The tube is constructed to be a very strong connection
within the flap inboard extension and close out.
I can give little assurance but would suggest that the construction of the
tapered tube within the close out would restrain the flap should the drive
pin become disengaged.
However the issue of the other end of the flap fouling up the aileron would
still prevail on "classic" constructed wings.
On discussion with William Daniel I believe that the XS prebuilt wing does
not allow the flap to escape laterally (because the nose or leading outboard
end of the flap is enclosed by the wing trailing edge close out)and so foul
up the aileron but the issue of the drive pin disengaging is still a very
vital consideration and would recommend similar action over the tapered
guide hole and the flap inboard close out.

Regards and Happy New Year to all.
Bob Harrison G-PTAG
