Hi,
Most of you know that I fly over some of the least populated land mass in North America. While I love it, my wife has legitimate concerns on how to find my dead or disabled body if the worst should happen. I got a Spot last December, but did not get the tracking feature with it. Last summer I bought a ICOM radio for a base station so that I could communicate with her and the range is quite good. John H was able to talk to us from 60 miles out, but it is of course line of sight and the higher the better. I decided this year to get the tracking feature and just turn it on every time I fly. It sends a location every 10 minutes, so that should narrow the search pattern quite a lot. My problem with it before has been finding somewhere to put it that it could see the sky. This is my solution.

While I haven't been able to take a test flight with it as of yet, the static test appear to be just what is needed. I created a "Shared page" that sends a notification to my friends that appear to be interested in seeing where I am flying.

Filing a flight plan is a bit overkill when one is just flying in circles or down to my favorite fishing hole, but notification and a track on the home computer will do a lot to make my friends envious and the wife a little happier.

HI ALL,
My son gave me a spot for xmas, when I went on line to register and activate it they had me return it to the factory seems like there is some kind of trouble. They are supposed to
send me a new one as soon as they are available . Don't know when that will be.I don't know if the older ones that have been in service for a while have the same problems, You
might want to contact them and see. [ could easily be kolb related if you fly a kolb like Larry C and myself ]

This is the link that they send. You have to reduce it on the slide scale since they don't take close ups around here.

Mine is the old one. Not sure what you ran into Frank, but the newer one is supposed to be a bit easier to use.
