As you all know, I have been encouraging everyone to fly to Sun N Fun to join in all the Lightning activities and have lots of good "bravo sierra" sessions with each other while there. Well, looks like I might be driving instead of flying. Bummer.
To recap - when landing, bringing the Esqual LS here to load it with camping equipment, etc. I had a flat tire when I taxied up to the hangar. No problem on landing or taxiing in, but as I climbed out I could tell one wing was low. By the time I opened the hangar it was totally flat and I had to air it up some to even pull it into the hangar. Soon went flat again. Aired it up just to get the wheel pant off and put a jack under it to hold it up. No nail or anything in the tire, just a hole in the side wall of the tube. It is one of those leakguard tubes - Great for holding air, but I have had two of them fail in the past 4 years. Prior to that, with the regular tubes, no failures at all in the past 40 some years of general aviation flying. Might be a story there. I love the leakguard tubes because once you air them up - they hold the air, but two tube failures in 4 years might show a trend. Ordering a new tube, but they were closed, so want get the order until next day and then with express shipping, it would not get here until maybe noon on Saturday, and I need to be there Friday evening. So have about decided to load up the truck and start driving south tomorrow afternoon. Bummer, but at least I can take a larger tent and more supplies. But darn, I hate driving to a fly-in.
See you there,
Buz

Buz:
It is my hope to fly 83TW, not sure of what day. Is there any way to get ground control to park us near other Lightnings? Didn't know that if I made a sign would help.
This is the first time that I wasn't coming in with 20-40 warbirds from the South, so we were all parked in a line.
Sorry about your tire!
My Best,
Ray

Ray,
The special Sun N Fun arrival procedures start Sunday, so be sure to read the NOTAM, as it is totally different from the warbird arrival. Actually Lakeland ground has nothing to do with parking. The Sun N Fun volunteer parkers in the experimental / homebuilt area actually do try to park similar airplanes together, but all bets are off when they get busy, so it will depend on when you arrive. But if you get a parking place you don't like you might be able to move later if something better opens up. Obviously the early arrivals get the better spots. Looking forward to seeing you there. Remember the Lightning get together on Friday at 11 AM at the Lightning booth.
Blue Skies,
Buz
