				Hello All,

I'm working on adding the upgrade to my center section and have a
question after talking with an A&P buddy helping me out. Its concerns
the rivets on the top of the center section top double (6-zu-2-1) and
the front ctr web spar (6-w-4-1) and the old rivet line in 6-w-4-1.
Since the distance between the two halves of the center section has
increased my question is should I drill a new rivet line from 6-zu-2-1
into 6-zu-2-2 which will be slightly off from the old rivet line in the
rear web section ? If I do then then there will be effectively elongated
(old plus new) holes thru the rear center section which is of course
sandwiched between 6-zu-2-1 and 6-zu-2-2. My A&P says this will lead to
cracking. If you keep the existing rivet line however it seems it will
be over the radius of the rear center section though ?

How did other folks handle this.

 Hopefully this makes sense,

 Thanks in Advance,
 John Davis

My read on this is they want you to back drill through the old holes in the
6-ZU-2-2 into 6-ZU-2-1 which just clips the edge of the old holes under the
6-ZU-2-1 then add a rivet in between each of those for a pitch on 20mm. You
will have the same problem on the forward part of the carry through to the
 floor also.

				Hi David,

Right, that was my take as well but my A&P buddy doesnt like the fact
that the new rivets clip the edge of the old holes, he says that can
cause stress cracks on and around the rivets going thru the larger holes.

 Thanks for your feedback,
 John

				John,
At least the part that is double drilled is just really used as a spacer
between two thicker pieces I don't really think it would cause a problem if it
did have some cracking. This whole thing is somewhat of a compromise
between what is correct and how were doing it. David Coberly

				John,
Another thing I just finished riveting my carry through spar today and used
solid rivets on every rivet on it because I had enough extra in a bucket of
rivets I have. When I took it out I weighed it and when I finished it I
weighed again and it gained just over 4 lbs FYI. David

Excuse the potential stupidity but I thought that the purpose of putting a hole between the existing holes was to ensure that you don't use the original holes (leaving them hidden on the underside).

Therefore you would have a pitch 40 on the new holes not a pitch 20 with elongation (and therefore potential cracking) on the original holes. Does this make sense or did I not read the plans properly?

I also thought that the use of solid rivets would negate the need for pitch 20 due to their comparatively higher shear strength?
