				Am I correct in my understanding that the  only reason Rotax states on page 10-15 of the Operators  Manual to rotate the prop several times in the direction of engine rotation  until one hears the "burp" or "murmur" in the oil tank is to return oil to the  tank to check for the proper level in the tank? Some have inferred that you must  do this every time before starting the engine to assure proper lubrication  through out the engine. My interpretation of the Rotax instructions on page  10-15 of their Operation Manual is that this is to assure that you have the  correct oil level in the tank, and for no other reason.

				The 912 REQUIRES crankcase pressure to push oil back to the tank. It's a dry sump system with no scavenge pump to empty out the crankcase. When you listen for the burp you're verifying that the engine is sealed so that there are no leaks to keep this from working.

				Rotating the prop ONLY in the normal operating direction May be advised in
 order to 1. fill oil tank to check oil level properly, 2. prevent pushing
 air into oil delivery passages due to turning prop backwards, and 3.
 prevent air from being sucked into oil passages because header tank is
 empty and suction tube might draw air instead of oil. At least these are
 the explanations  I recall from the Lockwood maint course.
