Anyone have information associated with a proposed FAA AD related to Bombardier-Rotax GmbH 912 A, 912 F, and 912 S series engines? According to the AOPA, the proposed AD concerns cracking of the engine case. I assume that the non-certified 912 UL & 912 S should be suspected as well. However, does anyone know what serial numbers are involved?

This AD concerns a four year old Service Bulletin that the FAA is finally
getting around to. Yes it includes the S/ULS.
To check the serials, get the SB yourself from rotax-owner.com, etc
It is SB-912-029
In the US, ADs do not formally apply to experimental AC.
Choosing to ignore them however is a good test of wisdom and judgment.

AD's and do they apply or not....
1 - Does the engine have the data plate on it?
Then it is a production engine and AD's apply.
2 - Is the engine is being used on a Production GA aircraft?
Then the AD's apply.
3 - Is the engine being used on an EXPERIMENTAL aircraft and the
engine data plate is on the engine.
Then the AD's apply.
4 - Do you plan on using the manufactures warranty?
Then the AD's apply.
5 - Do you want to NOT adhere to AD's?
Then REMOVE the data plate, if you have an EXPERIMENTAL plane..
Granted some AD's are a bunch of donkey-dust AND designed to make
money. But you decide.
