105 here today but working on the plane was not too uncomfortable due to an old window A/C unit I modified so that I could attach some house A/C ducts to. I replace the long ducts with some flexible AL ducts so that I can blow cool air at me while working on the engine.

For flying I like the idea of the fan operated cooler that goes in the back seat of the plane. The guy was selling them at OSH last year for about $500 in the large size. But they had a crummy cheapo cooler from China. I hope that they have upgraded the container this year. Maybe I will buy one. It is hot here in Nevada.

Check out Cabella's - look at their 'Tent Coolers' for about $100, works on
batterys or a cig lighter plugin. I have one and it's OK - poor man's A/C.
Fits between the rear seats. Takes 8 D cells so the plugin is probably a
better way to go.

I have done the same thing with a window unit for these hot, humid, Florida days.

My understanding of this unit is that it's a cold fan- it needs to be blown
at someone versus cooling the area. I am interested in more feedback on what
"Ok" is. Does it actually bring the AZ heat down in the cabin? how much?
The biggest issue I have seen is fitting the coolers into the baggage area-
they are all too big, The other option is having to lug it in through the
doors and into the back, also they tend to have condensation and make the
area they sit on slightly wet.
Thx
Pascal

I think that I am taking this blog a bit astray from an on site cooler to a portable A/C unit. I could not find the Cabellas link, to a portable tent cooler. Might just be a swamp cooler, but these guys sell a real portable A/C unit not a swamp cooler. http://www.arcticaircooler.com/ Their unit is essentially a heat exchanger that uses ice as the cooling material. They are at OSH every year. I just do not like their rinky-dink Chinese made red nylon covered units.

Hey Mike,
Maybe a bit astray, but a timely topic ... it's hot here in SC too! Try
this link
http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/links/link.jsp?id=0053085518260a&type=product&cmCat=SEARCH_all&returnPage=search-results1.jsp&Ntk=Products&QueryText=cooler&sort=all&N=0&Nty=1&hasJS=true&_dyncharset=ISO-8859-1&_DARGS=%2Fcabelas%2Fen%2Fcommon%2Fsearch%2Fsearch-box.jsp.form23
I had trouble finding it also, and maybe this isn't the one referred to. It
doesn't get great reviews. It may be time to play with some styrofoam
coolers, pvc pipe, and 12v. fans. Didn't somebody here have a
do-it-yourself one of these a while back? Or maybe I'm thinking of Tim's
glue cooler for the hangar.
Later, - Lew

There was a builder that rolled his own cooler. I think he had $20.00 + a
cooler "invested" in his project. Archives?
