I noticed that some of you chaps have the inner corner of your trim tabs
clipped for rudder clearance. I cannot find the dimensions for the corners to be
cut out in the manual. My manual shows them to be a proper rectangle, Could
someone point me to that area? Or tell me the dimensions of the cut out? I
would like to start filling and sanding. Best to make these cuts and lay up over
them before I begin!

Thanks so much.

Hi! Brian
I'm pretty sure there isn't a dimension in the manual. You need to have
constructed an extensive and heavily floxed corner, I have measured mine
to be 2.25" fore and aft and about 1.25" inboard to outboard measured
from the original corner so that when you have the rudder on full
deflection and the tab also on full deflection with the stabilators also
on full travel there is clearance. You could use my dimensions but
should your set up require more then you won't be a "happy bunny" !
however you will have at least tried!
That way you could have trimed off until you get the clearance without
needing to close out the corner again. Best to use slow hardener though
and keep it cool you don't want an exothermic event !
Sounds though you missed the bit about floxing the corner so you may
have to wait till you've trimmed then close out and so delay painting or
touch it up after.

Hi Brian,
There aren't any instructions that detailed. With the rudder and tailplane
fitted, just cut off enough to ensure that the rudder does not foul the
trim tab. Repair the chopped off corner. Dig out a little foam make a good
flox corner and a simple lay-up. Then fit/trim the flettner strips.
regards,
Mike.

Hi Bob.
Thanks for the advice. I best wait until I get the tail on then to check
for that clearance. I bought the pre skinned tail. I'll give it a closer
examination when I get home tonight!
Thanks mucho!
