Hi gang,
Does anyone know where I could buy some of the PVC lift strut fairings? I've got some aluminum ones already, but they're quite heavy and I sure don't need more weight. Or are there alternatives to PVC/aluminum out there?
Thanks!

HI,
The originals were made out of wood. The PVC ones replaced the wood for
more weight and ease of installation. They did not require all the bondo
like the wood ones to make them smooth.
Several builders have made their own wood ones using moulding from the
home supply store. I suspect more bondo would be required.
Several builders have made small ribs from plywood and used thin (>016 or
less) aluminum just wrapped around the strut and riveted them like the
flapreons. Much more work.
Regards, Paul

Margaret,
I have a complete fairing kit I will sell you for $20 plus shipping. It
includes instructions and metal for blending in the lower end where the
struts meet.
I didn't use the kit because the PVC is heavy! I used plastic door trim and
covered it with fabric. I would have saved lots of time using the PVC
though.
Let me know if you are interested.

I have the same PVC kit installed on my plane and can say that it has worked
fine for me - not only did I get an immediate increase in speed the
installation was a breeze and I had them installed in a couple of hrs.
I had mine painted with auto Urethane -(mixed with the softener used for
plastic trim) 3 years now with no problems.
I paid a lot more than $20.......

Mine are made of wood like the originals and wrapped w/ fabric. No Bondo.
Would bet PVC would be lighter, but mine are made of Basswood ,so fairly
light. Larry Huntley
