Hello group,

I'm a would be Europa owner and am considering buying a plane with a
Rotax 912 engine and an NSI CAP140 IFA prop.

I know little about Europa's (other than they look good, fly well, and
have very loyal owners,) and I know even less about this prop, other
than I had heard a rumour that spares/ servicing might be a problem for
UK owners. Any info on servicing, spares, pre-purchase checking (and
anything else I should know) would be appreciated.

Apologies if this question has been answered somewhere in the archive
(I'm still learning how to drive this site)

Thanks (in anticipation)

Bob

Bob,

I would recommend a Google or other search on "NSI CAP 140 Propeller" to get as much background information as possible. I believe there may be a Canadian AD on the prop. NSI used to have a website ( http://www.nsiaero.com/ ) but it is no longer operating. Caveat Emptor.

Is it possible in the UK to replace the CAP 140 on a flying Europa with another prop (Warp Drive, Airmaster, Whirlwind, WoodComp, etc.)? Can this be done economically in this case?

Check six,

I can enthusiastically recommend the Whirlwind constant speed prop. Those
who are running it will swear it's the best on the market. A little pricey,
but it you want the ultimate in performance, it's the way to go.

Hi Bob

NSI were bought out by Maxwell Propulsion some year back, Maxwell have
ceased trading recently. Although they never officially supported the
CAP140 they did have quite a number of spares. The blades are standard
Warpdrive and readily obtainable from them directly. However the cuffs are
NSI and would need to be refitted. There was an AD regarding the early
version of the cuff but they are now on Mark 3 with no issues. The original
problem was when the prop was fitted to I think Lycoming or Continental and
not Rotax or Subaru. There are still a few spares about but watch out for
spare blades where the Subaru ones turn the other way.

Very well engineered propeller with little to go wrong. Check for play in
the blades when it is static. It also suites the Europa flight
characteristics and performs well. Mine is on a 912 and we get 125kts
indicated at around 14.5 litres ph depending on load.

Regards

Pete
