Just a brief note to say that I am leaving the Matronics list and to express my deep thanks for its assistance during these past four years.

I learned to fly in 1945 and did so regularly until 1956, when both parents died in the crash of their new Cessan 170. The years go by; I married a woman in 1982 who shared my wish to build and fly; indeed, about that time we traveled to Eloy AZ to fly in the Dragonfly. And then, in the summer of 2006, I met Michael Heintz and the 601 and the new LSA category; instant love. Our kit was delivered six months later, just about the time the first accidents occurred. And as with many of you, work generally stopped while the issues involved cascaded throughout the List. Also, as with many of you, the announcement that a modification kit would be available rekindled a sense of cautious optimism. The up-grade was nearly completed by mid-August; "perhaps by next spring...."

But, no. In mid-August I was diagnosed as having cancer. Perhaps it is enough to simply say that this 60-year-old dream will not now happen; at age eighty, other priorities (including relocation back to the East coast) have suddenly become central. In what is one of the truly difficult decisions we have had to make, I am selling my 601.

My gratitude for the List is quite profound. While not participating often, it has been read almost daily with much interest; individuals such as Larry McFarland, Paul Mulwitz, Rick Lindstrom and Terry Phillips (there obviously are numerous others) were unusually helpful during the confusion of 2008-9, and from the List I have put together a supplemental construction manual of well over a thousand pages. That I cannot now act on all of this is a deep disappointment indeed.

Again, thank you all. The sight of a 601 in flight will bring back a fascinating experience.

Elden, I am so sorry to hear of your diagnosis, and that you won't be able to finally fly your 601 after all the trials and tribulations. You've got my respect for staying with it for as long as possible, and I sincerely hope that you can take pride in all that you've done.

My best wishes and hopes for you, and yours.

				Hi Elden,

I don't get on the list much anymore. But I do try to check on the group from time to time. I'm sure sorry to hear about the health problems, and the loss of the dream to build your own 601. I had my own battle with cancer, and won. Never give up; pray, pray, and pray some more. And let the doctors do their thing at the same time.

Where on the east coast are you moving to? Anywhere near Atlanta, Georgia? If so, I could give you some stick time in my 601. It isn't an XL (601HDS), but it might help with some memories and dreams.
