My 912 UL in an XS engine mount has now done 330 hours. The silencer has
had, since new, a metal "muffler" around it, held in place by 2 large
jubilee clips.

This muffler will no longer stay in place and, as it does not appear to
serve any useful purpose, I am considering removing it.

Is any other XS 912 user operating without this metal muffler around their
silencer?

Many thanks,

David

David,

If it is like mine I think that you will find that the "muffler" is a heat
shield. Removing it will expose the oil pipes to a lot of heat. Not to be
recomended!

Regards.

Bryan Allsop. 912S Rotax, similar muffler.

Hi! David
In the absence of Rotax advice I'll suggest it is a heat baffle to save
heat rising upwards into whatever is above it ?
Be careful since they aren't in the habit of putting spare metal in
place without a reason.

Bob Harrison.

David,

The metal is indeed a heat shield and is best left in place. Check
Europa's website for the appropriate fix for the loosening screws...
