I managed to "kiss" the top of the big blue capacitor with a #30 drill.
It penetrated the black cardboard and I can see silver (Hopefully the
outside of the can).

Should I:
1. Test it somehow.
2. Pitch and replace.
3. Dab it with silicon and call it good.

As my grandpa would say, "Oh fooey . . ."
or something like that.

Without having specific knowledge of
the construction of that part number,
I'm unable to advise from any position
of certainty.

I think I'd just replace the puppy. You've
got SSOOoooo many issues for chasing out
bugs yet un-discovered piled on top of
maintenance items you've already signed
up for. Adding this to the list of
uncertainties doesn't seem like a judicious
assignment of resources.

While taking Bob's advice is certainly the safest thing to do, if you
can confirm that what you see is just the can and you haven't actually
pierced the can you are fine. All the aluminum electrolytics are
encased in an aluminum can which is isolated from the two terminals.
Take an ohmmeter and measure from the metal in the hole to each of the
two active capacitor terminals. If there is no continuity then that is
a pretty good indication you are okay. Also take a look at the hole
with a magnifying glass to make sure you have not actually penetrated
the can.

Thanks Bob and Dick,

Continuity tested positive and replacement ordered.
