Curious
1) What is favorite way of those flying to filter fuel before it goes into
your tank?
2) Has anyone ever tried to put lets say 2 parallel Pro-805 filters in
neck of a funnel? Or would that be too much restriction if you wanted to
complete filling tank before bedtime?
3) What is favorite way of carrying gas from a Mogas pump to plane when
you are going somewhere away from home?
a) Don't do it and buy 100LL?
b) Use aux tank to transport fuel, or is it too heavy to put in plane when
full?
c) Other?

Ron,
I don't filter mogas, nor does my friend at the airport with a 914 mono,
and he has 500+ hours on it with no contamination problems.
Has anyone in the US / Canada sourced one of the 12V transfer pumps
mentioned by the UK flyers.
Lifting 25 litres to the top of the fuselage is a bit of an effort.

Hi Dave
I supplied these pumps over here in the U.K. and still have a few left
if anyone is interested. I have a second home in Daytona Fl. And will be
over there in June for a month, so if anyone on your side of the pond
wants one of these great little pumps, then I can bring some over with
me and mail them out from there.

Much appreciated.
If you could let me know the cost including shipping, I will send a money
order.
It's probably as easy to send from the UK to Canada, as it is to ship up
from the States, and may be more chance of it getting through without
taxes being added,

Alan's transfer pumps are 3v - they use two D cells ! Not
12 v !

Ron,
I use one of the funnels AC Sprice sell that have a fine mesh filter. The
claim is that it is fine enough to remove water. Humping the 6 gallon jerry
cans is getting a bit old though.....

I don't have any pictures left of the pump. I must have wiped them off
my PC. I have supplied a lot of these to Europa owners and everyone
seems to agree they work very well. I can fill my aircraft in a couple
of minutes using the pump and it fit nicely into the neck of a 5 gallon
jerry can, so its quite handy. The batteries seem to last an awful long
time and only need changing about every 3 or 4 months. Let me know if
you want one, the cost is 28UKP or 55 USD which includes postage.

Well 5 minutes! and the batteries do last ages, and the price has gone
down ! You really need to stand the can on the wing or in my case I but
it on the P2 head rest.

A friend with a 912 Pulsar carries a 25 litre portable plastic container in
the back (is this legal) and then has to beg a lift or hire a taxi to the
nearest petrol station for a fill up. This always seems to be horribly
unsatisfactory.
Any ideas would be most welcome.

I'm living and flying in France.
I'm sure you'll have no problem getting a lift to the nearest gas
station on any airfield here in France. You'll be even more successful
if you ask ultralight pilots. They virtually always refuel with plastic
jerrycans.
If you don't have the little pump discussed on this list, remember most
ultralights are high wings and they always have a step at hand.
If you happen to land at Vienne (LFHH), I'll be glad to take you to the
petrol station.

Search for "siphon pump" on Google and you will find many sources for
affordable pumps using 2 "D" Cells. They are commonly used for kerosene transfer.

My 912S doesn't care, one way or the other, so I buy whatever is
available. I'll use 100LL before using less than 93 octane Mogas...

Was there a thread, sometime ago, about the various octane ratings?
If memory serves me, my local Canadian pump says 91MON octane rating, or
something similar, for the premium fuel.
The 912S and 914 both run well on the available premium fuel, and it
appears that for the immediate future, ethanol will not be blended into
the premium fuel here, just into the regular.

Hi Ron,
We buy pump fuel from the car filling stations and transport
in 20l jerry cans - however it is getting increasingly difficult over here
due regulations. Some officious little Hitler waved a document at me the
other day saying metal cans have to be screw top and you can only carry a
small amount. Apparently the answer is to buy unleaded green plastic 5l cans
and lots of them - how stupid is that !!
Back to the question. We transfer using a polythene hand pump and fill via a
chamois lined funnel - we never fail to filter. Only use Avgas when we have
to - mortgagae job over here to buy it !!
Regarding 914 ground temps you asked me about. A friend has the XS tri gear
with 914, afraid to say prolonged taxiing in anything approaching moderate
to high ambient temperatures even with Evans is to be avoided.
PS gear spring works "just dandy"

No wonder. Using Evans will definitely *increase* operating
temperatures, due to its lesser specific heat.
