Folks,
A Commander (probably a -500S) disappeared in the Torres Straight, Cape York area of Australia yesterday. He had reported within about 20nm of destination, but even with that limited search area, foul weather (wet season in full swing) has hampered search efforts.
More details when available.

Bill,Any details? Did the pilot radio his situation? Lots of islands in the area -- I hope he made it within swimming distance of a nice beach if unable to land.Keep us posted.Keith S. GordonWing Commander Gordon

Hi Keith & Folks,
Unfortunately the situation doesn't look good for this one.
The aircraft is VH-WZU 500S s/n 3060 and went missing early on 24 Feb. Grid searching has turned up just a life jacket...nothing definitive.
Pilot radioed a routine broadcast shortly before the time it is assumed he went missing.
Mission was a routine single pilot freight flight from Cairns to Horn Island.

Hello All,
Seems like a restoration project has been abandoned?
Has been modified with the installation of a 'Miller' nose and a front cabin
door, neither of which I knew about before now.
Both must be fairly recent installations, as the paint doesn't match up.
As I think these front cabin doors are becoming extremely rare(?) . . . . .
it might be of interest to somebody?

I saw quite a number of Commanders from space at Cairns, using Google Earth.
