Hi,

Has anyone had this problem before?

I've been using some Araldite 420, which is in date and I believe has been stored correctly. I've mixed some up twice now and despite mixing it thoroughly for quite a while, I'm left with some very small 'flakes' of 420A (the yellow paste). When I say small I mean about 1mm in diameter. I was painting the glue on some metal parts and I managed to get most of the flakes off the part but it was a struggle.

The glue has gone off and set hard but I can see some of these yellow flakes in certain areas which I've ground out. Prior to mixing the second batch, I put the 420A in the airing cupboard for a bit to warm up but I still had the same problem.

Has this glue got a problem and if so, can I rectify it or do I need to get a new can? Anyone know what I've done wrong if it does have a problem?

Thanks,

Phil

Phill,
Place the yellow goo with the can in a pan of water. Bring it to a boil and keep an eye on it. It will soften and as it does stir till it turns back into it's original condition without the flakes.

Hi! Phil
The yellow paste of the premix Redux can be reactivated by carefully melting
it down. Do it gradually and stir it well whilst melting into a liquid. When
finished allow to cool and you should find all the crystals have returned to
the bulk and you should be left with the thick creamy original texture.

Jeff / Bob,

Thanks for your replies, I'll give that a go.

Any ideas why this happens? Is it age or did I store it too cold or something?

Also, I guess that the weight of these crystals is negligible and so the remaining mixed glue that didn't contain crystals would be fine for normal use?

Regards,

Phil

Hi! Phil.
I believe it is short term ageing nothing more serious perhaps a bit like
honey . Heating it up gives it a new life.
