Will,
Get your ruler out......
The spar cap [ glass rovings] should be about 42mm deep at the point directly above the Q/C hole,[ from the top of the spar to the wood] the hole itself should be about 61mm from the top.
The quality control of the placement of rovings was a bit suspect at one time, I had to inspect for minimum cap material before they went out. Many were too thick, you may strike lucky if the one you have is too deep [ as in you have 42mm above the top of the hole you have drilled ?] and what you have is rovings where wood should be ?
There will always be a fix, so don't fret too much.
