I got out of Laramie, WY, this morning. Nothing will get me flying faster than having to pay $75.00 to sleep in somebody elses bed for another night.

Weather was marginal looking, winds blowing the wrong way, rain, turbulence, and cold temps. I had to climb to 10,000 feet to get out of turbulence on the way from Laramie to Rawlins, WY. OAT was 28F. Don't know what it was inside, but I have no cabin heat and I left my Chilli Vest (12vdc vest) at home. I did have enough sense to bring a pair of thermals, thinsulate turtle neck shirt, and boot socks. Also remembered my thinsulate flying gloves I bought for my first flight to Alaska in 1994. Stayed comfortable except the feet. Numb when I landed at Rawlins. Rawlins is a good place to stop as is Evanston, WY.

My sister lives 37 miles from here in Morgan, UT. They are on the way to pick me up. I'll leave the mkIII tied down at Evanston for a few days while I visit.

I am about a half day from the Rock House. I can make it in two legs, Jackpot, NV, then the Rock House.

Depending on the weather and wind, I may fly to Wendover, UT, then Elko, NV, and either Winnemucca, NV, or direct to the Rock House from Elko, as I did two years ago.

I had some tough headwinds from Laramie to Rock Springs. Down to 35 mph once. Spent time at 45 and 50, mostly 60 and 65 mph ground speed. That makes for long legs when you are also freezing. ;-(

I flew WOT 5500 rpm much of the first leg and then 5200 and 5400 the second leg this morning. Finally got a little help from the wind from Rock Springs to Evanston.

Lot of weather in the Rockies. Flew through several rain showers, but they were light.

Good to be on the ground for a couple days with family.

This is the end of day 8. A normal flight from Alabama to the Rock House is 4 days.

Brother Jim has been camping in his RV at Homer Kolb's for a couple weeks. He will be there for another week or so. I called to let him know where I was and got a chance to talk with Marcus Kolb. All are well. Good to talk with Marcus.

Take care,

john h

John is in Evanston Wy for the next few days. He got a window this morning and hit the skies, going through Rawlings, Rock Springs, Kemmerer, and then to Evanston. He is being picked up by his sister who lives in Utah. He will likely post later, but he thought he might take a nap first.

Its been raining all morning long, strangest thing for this section of the Desert.

Beaver OH, about 20 minutes above PMH by car, and about the same south of the Pike county airport.
