The May, 2011 Lightning Newsletter is ready and soon should be available at

and

http://www.flylightning.net.

Unfortunately, Max at  http://moonshineaviation.com is unable to post it this month due to technical problems.

Great idea, Bill.  Just change your route a bit so that you can stop
overnight here in Williamsburg, VA (KJGG).  I would be pleased to have  you (and

any other Lightning list reader) stay here at my place - for several  nights
if you want to do some sight seeing around this historic area.  So  this is
on official invite to you and any other Lightning flyer to stop by
Williamsburg (our country's first capitol) and stay at Buz's place.  It  would
be a
pleasure to have any of our group.  Just give me a little notice  so I can
be sure I am home.
Blue Skies,
Buz

PS:  Looking at your route through Nevada, just be sure you don't
"violate" Area 51 restricted airspace.  I can provide the "Dreamland" tower
frequency if it hasn't recently changed.  Wink

Somewhere between the 465 deadlift and the 365  squat my body decided to
delay my goals by introducing the experience of a  little bitty hernia.  So
I've had some time to kill and have been  dreaming about flying.

I've always wanted to fly to all 48 contiguous  states, so I decided to see
what it would really take.  A little time  with some frustrating software
and I came up with the attached graphic.   I'm lacking a few stops on the
east coast, but I just wanted to get an idea  for the scope of a trip like that.

The route here results in about 7600  miles.  Definitely more than a
weekend, at least in the Lightning.   Smile

But this would take me through every one of the lower 48.  I  think I'm
going to plan to do this much later this year, like when I can  physically pull

my plane from the hanger.

Anyone else interested in a  pointless yet meaningful trip?  If so, we
could just have a varying  number of pilots throughout the trip.  You can join

the group when they  reach your state, and you'll keep going when others
reach their home state at  the end.

Maybe it's just lack of sleep and a somewhat numb mind, but  this seems
like fun to me.  If no takers, I'll at least take some  pictures and put it up

on a website somewhere.

16 days would mean an  average of 3 states a day, and require an average of
less than 500  miles/day.  Seems doable.

Thoughts?

Thanks Buz!  Proof again (as if it's needed) that pilots are among the best people
out there.

Wait a second - that does not qualify as flying over the state of Florida!

Seeing as this topic seems to have stalled again, must be some sort of flap motor
disease Smile , I offer the following:

http://products.danahermotion.com/v41/Advisor.asp?User=Actuators_Linear

These are what appears to be the source of the original flap motor which is an
Electrac 1.  The Electrac 2 series offer more thrust but the package is larger
and the travel speed lower.  The D1210A5 model seems to be in the ballpark for
thrust and it has a limit switch option, as per the current unit, and a potentiometer
option which would be useful for flap indicator or control systems.
The motor end is roughly 76 by 148 mm compared to the existing 40 by 73 mm so
space may be an issue, I have not checked at all.

Hope this provides some useful clues.

Harry,

You must go to the Matronics web site and unsubscribe from the list. No one
monitors the list and processes the requests. It's all automated.

Hope this helps.

Best regards,

Mark
