The oil we are using here (Mexico) is a blend oil sold for the big 4 cycle Honda motorcycles... We had this advice from the owner of Kodiak and Luis Gallo (the Rep of Kodiak for Latin America) one time they visit our Club and gave us a complete mantainace course.

So any good quality blend oil that has aditives for using as a transmision oil will work.

In short: Blend means that uses part sintetic and part mineral in his formula, pure sintetic oils dont "work" properly as heat tranfer in aircooled engines and dont "transport" the lead from AVGas...
Sintetic are good for water cooled engines that use autogas.

This is what I learned, but could be wrong, But happy to learn with facts.

Note: Rotax has water cooled heads, but uses oil as cooler also.

Saludos

List,

What are 912 flyers using for engine oil?

The Rotax "Service Instruction" (SI-18-1997) that I have is several years old.
Possibly this isn't the most recent list of recommended oils, but I have noticed that some of the wording used in the "Description" column does not match the labels on present-day products.
Maybe I've overlooked a later version of this listing.

As an example, Rotax lists "Mobil 1". There are at least three versions of Mobil 1; automobiles, 4-stroke motorcycles, and V-Twin motorcycles; Rotax doesn't specify which.

The glossy brochures pitch all the benefits (usual manufacturers' hype) but there is a difference stated.
The motorcycle version is said to contain gear-lubricating additives.

Likewise there are other slight differences between the Rotax list nomenclature and what is actually on the shelves of Wal-Mart, NAPA, AutoZone, etc, etc.

It looks like a slow day, so everybody jump in here......we might all learn something.

Thanks, and don't forget the flowers for Mother's Day!!
