All--
Tony is correct--- I talked to Nick at Zenith (several months ago) when I had to decide which size tab to put on my XL---My plans showed the small tab, and the updates showed the larger tab------ Nick told me that, " the smaller size tab was a transition from the HD model which did not have flaps-------- With flap use on the XL the smaller tab is not big enough to get rid of all the stick pressure, therefore the bigger tab was introduced."
My decision was: I built the smaller tab, as (1) I prefer some back pressure in the landing configuration and (2) the trim wouldn't be so sensitive in the cruise mode.

Jack,
I have the same problem with my XL relative to running out of elevator trim
with flaps. In flight, I use very little trim and most of the time my trim
setting is pretty close to neutral so I do not want to change the incidence
of my horiz stab.. I automatically trim full nose up as I lower flaps and
still have to hold back pressure. I believe the solution is to go to a full
span trim tab as per the latest Zodiac dwgs.

My (uninstalled) trim tab fits between the two riblets and is about 530 mm
wide. It is shown in 6-ATO-1 dated 2/04. Is this the older, narrower design
or the newer, wider one? If the narrower one, how does a wider tab fit
around the riblets?

My elevator was completely skinned, than I cutout and installed the trim tab afterwards. I used plans dated 02/03 page 6-T-6. the cut out calls for 417mm (between inbd and center ribs.-------- my finished and installed tab is 410mm.
Using updated plans 08/05) calls for a cutout of 900mm and a tab length of 895mm------ the aft (cutout area) of the center rib would have to be cut also if built to the old plans and installing the (new) larger tab. The new tab drawing is shown on the Zenith builders site updates.

I see a list of Acrobat files which describe changes to the plans at:
http://www.zenithair.com/zodiac/xl/xl-up-drawings.html
Are you saying the actual updated drawing are on the web site? If so where?

They can be found in the builder's area: http://www.zenithair.com/zodiac/xl/xl-up-drawings.html
If you are still unable to locate them, email me and I'll send it to you. The trim tab is very easy to add, even if your elevator is already skinned.
