Hi.

My left engine did not develop full power on my way out of Chicago to get to the fly-in and I had to abort, which was really sad after have come all the way from California to join you for the first time. I was devastated. Anyway, two cylinders were down and after I finally found a guy to pull them on the field he saw stuff he didn't like and he wouldn't sign off on just repairing the cylinders. The oil ring had disintegrated and they found metal in the engine. Now, he might be "overreacting", having never worked on Commanders or old engines before, or he might have a point. Nevertheless, regardless of which I'm in a bad pickle - aircraft stuck 1800 miles away from home on an executive field with mostly big jets and the parking pricing of Signature and Atlantic...

I have JimBob and Morris with the ear to the ground and trying to find a solution for me and I'm very grateful for that. But I thought I'd consult the board as well - does anyone know of any GO-435's in decent shape, or known to fly, with papers, or no papers, that could eventually be for sale anywhere reasonably? I need to resolve my situation and get her back home. I fear this could take months and months again if I don't act swiftly and the parking at $30/day will ruin me...

I'm very disheartened at the moment.

What happened to 4186B after the gas truck hit it? Should be two good
engines available there.

Probably not what you want to hear but...
Years ago (in my first real flight as a newly minted aircraft owner), I
landed with an engine emergency in Broomfield CO.

It was obvious that the airplane was going to be stranded for weeks.

I explained the situation to the people at Signature and they immediately
gave me a "monthly" that was more of a gift than a rate.
Talk to them, it may be cheaper than buying an engine.
Yet...

Looks like they'll be able to patch the left engine together after sending pictures to Lycoming of the cam, which is good news. They didn't like the look of it at the shop, but it's been cleared. Engine is getting close to TBO, so it's normal wear.

Hunt still continues - need to replace those 435's sooner rather than later..

That *is* good news, Adam. Only this morning I was thinking of you;
concerned about your troubles. Glad things are going the right way for you.
Good stuff!

In Chicago to pick her up. Did a high speed taxi and run today and all was fine. Just in case, I will be routing south through New Mexico to avoid the grunt of the Rockies for my flight back to California.

Thanks Moe!

So far my only troubles have been with money! Credit card and debit cards not accepted at various pit stops as they "exceed daily limit". Funny that - it's my own money on the debit card, but I can't access it! Banks. Eventually had to get into town to get some cash to pay re-fueler. All extremely annoying and time consuming. Tomorrow is a new day and with new daily limits. Let's hope I can get enough fuel to get back.

Moral of story? One can never have too many credit cards. When one goes down, move on to the next.

Adam,How far did you get today?
I was on a trip this week and I called my card company and told them I would be traveling. It seemed to help.

It's possible to get a $5000 daily limit on a debit card at Wells Fargo... I had to do it while traveling too.

Every time I went away and pumped more then $3,000.00 of fuel into the hay
burner they would stop the card entirely, I would have to call them after
the rejection of the transaction..."For your own safety" they said.

My American Express has never failed me yet. Last week I put a $3,100.00 Credit purchase with no problem. However, my next purchase was much smaller and I had to call and tell them I was traveling. No problems after that. I thanked them for looking out for me.

Hello Adam "aka stratobee"

My e-mail to the chat page does not always work but I hope this gets through to you. I am an old Commander guy that loves Commanders and I have read many of your postings. I have much compassion and respect for what you have been through and I wish I could help but I have followed many of the postings and in my opinion you have received some excellent advice from the TCFG gear engine guys. As for your credit card deli- ma I can certainly relate. Just my 2 cents worth, get a AX card and if you communicate with AX they will work with you (we currently pay for all of our fuel nightly with our AX card and they have been very good to work with). Take care and if there is anything I can help you with you e-mail me direct for sometimes my e-mails do not go through (old age setting in). Oh! and if you want any Bob Hoover videos I can send you some, from 1996-2000 I got to ferry Hoov's aircraft between air show and of course that was much fun) Take care, fly safe and all the best.

RESPECTFULLY,

John Towner Smile

Adam,

Sorry to  hear about the credit  card delima.

Some time ago I landed and taxied up to the fuel island. It was after hours and the weather wasn't too good. What appeared to be a father and son team walked over and said theat the pumps were inop, and  that the older of the two had trid both of his cards with no sucess.  I stuck one of my cards in the slot and proceeded to pump 150+ gallons in my Commander.  I then told them that if they would give me some cash that I would use my card and pump some fuel into their bird.  The father then proceeded to tell me that "we never carry any cash" in a somewhat smug manner.  The only thing that I could think of to say was "sorry I can't help you".  Sometimes cash is still king.  Some of the smaller mom and pop operations still give a minor discount for cash or will give you the fleet rate.  My standard line is "lookey here, things are a little tight now, what is the cheapest way I can get some fuel and get out of here".

Moe

UP date on travels of Adam,He stopped at KAEG here in New Mexico just before Lunch today.
We had lunch. And he proceeded on westward. In search of lower priced AVGAS.
He has an Ipad with the chart bag software that shows the fuel prices all along the way.
