I am still putting my plane together. However, I made the choice to use a fuel computer. I did not want the holes in my tanks and I have never found fuel gauges to be very accurate (I primarily used a fuel stick and engine time then worried about the bouncing fuel gauge).

Subject: Fuel Senders
I am about at the point of cutting holes in my wing tanks to install the Fu
el Tank Senders but was wondering if anyone is running with the EIS fuel fl
ow sensor only and eliminating the mechanical fuel senders in the tanks alt
ogether.- I know redundancy is best, but simple and light is also good.

The only problem with having only a flow based fuel indicating system is, what happens if you loose a fuel cap? The fuel will be syphoned overboard and there will be no indication of a problem until the big fan stops turning. Of course, I've never lost a fuel cap and don't personally know of anyone that has but we are all human and things can happen. What happens if a lineman places a fuel cap back on and forgets to lock it down? An Easy thing to miss on a pre-flight.
While my factory style fuel gauges are pretty lousy, at least they can give me some warning prior to fuel exhaustion. As I said, it was a mute point here in Canada as a direct reading (ie: not calculated) fuel level indicator must be installed in each fuel tank. I didn't have a problem with that rule as it made perfect sense to me.
