I put gap seals on the ailerons, trim tabs, and flaps of my TR-1. I am not sure if the flap gap seals are doing much, maybe a small drag reduction. The aileron gap seals noticably reduced control forces and increase my roll control. I recommend them for the aileron at least. I used the 35mm gap seal for the aileron and flap.

I got them from this guy...

http://www.wingsandwheels.com/page28.htm

I ordered the 78 mm gap seals for the tail feathers but I have not installed them yet. I think there is a noticable drag reduction to be had with gap seals on the elevator and rudder.

Cheers,

Scott

On a similar note I started using Bowlus "glider tape" also known as "speed tape" for the small gaps where the wing/fuselage connect, where the wing tips connect to the wings and underneath the fuselage to cover the different inspection panel gaps. With the tape I show a 2kts increase in IAS.

I ordered 3 rolls of the 2" size since I knew I was going to mess up a little until I figured out how to do it correctly. BUT I would up selling one roll to a friend qith an RV-4 and still have one roll left over. Here is a link to where I got it:

Hi Scott,

Did you put the seal on the bottom only? Do you have a photo of your
instillation you could send? What tape did you use?

Thanks, Tim

Hi Tim,

I just put tape between the hinges on the side with the hinges. I also had to trim about a 1/4 inch off the flap gap seal since the whistled with the flaps down.  I attached with gap seals with double sided tape and single sided tape running from the skin up over the gap seal as for anti peel. I just followed what the website said to do. I used the double and single sided tape from the website. Not the cheapest, but it is high quality tape. I attached a picture of the flap gap seal before I trimed them.

Hi Scott,
I remember Vance Jaqua used to say the KIS had a distinctive whistle when it was in the landing configuration. He said you could always tell when a KIS was coming in for a landing. Your comment just reminded me of that.

Scott,

From your experience, I think doing my ailerons for the reduced control force would be desirable.

If you have extra gap seal, 15 yd. roll seems like allot, would you like to sell me enough for my ailerons?

Just send me your address and I will send you some. Not enough money to worry about and I would like to see if you have the same results.
