I have a person interested in my plane. He is tall in the torso and needs to increase the head room. I remember that some cut the seat board differently and gained some head room. Can anyone tell me how much improvement can be gained? He needs about 2".

Thanks for your help!

Premould a bottom pan like they do in race cars & expensive sports cars seats, then cut out the flat bottom of the seat and mould in a basin effect bottom giving him the 2" don't forget the padding thickness.

Doug, as I recall, the seat lowering thing did give two inches. I do not have the instructions but from memory, the seat bottom which normally connects to the seat back where both meet the floor is shorten so that the seat bottom hits the floor several inches in front of the seat back. Perhaps others that have done the process can better describe what is done.

Doug,

I built mine with the extra headroom and Greg is correct, the seat bottoms are on the bottom of the fuselage about 2-3 inches from the seat back. I' m close enough that you can come see what I did.

I am 6ft 2" tall and I have done the following mod. to fit in. I have cut the original back rest and shaped it in "S" form to follow the spine curve and used for the seat cushion 1" thick Confor foam medium blue. I find it very comfortable without taking too much of the headroom.
On the picture the red dotted line represents the original shape. The black stripes are velcro stuck on with cyanoacrylate glue to keep cushions in place.

Doug,
This is more of a structural change, but you would gain some  head room by moving the top of the seat back thereby increasing the angle at which one is reclining .
