No offense guys, but you sure find a lot of things to bicker over. Perhaps we should focus on the positives and our commonalities. We're (theoretically) here due to our love of aviation and loyalty to some intriguing aircraft. Let's face it - if you're blessed enough to be actively involved in aviation, you're probably doing OK in life. There are people out there with very challenging struggles shivering through the night and praying for the possibility of one more meal. No one presidency got us into this mess and no one presidency is going to deliver us. Cast your vote, hope for the best and live the best life you are able to muster. But let's not turn on each other because we have differing political views when we should be uniting to celebrate and develop what we are so fortunate to participate in. We are all drawn in many different directions in life due to upbringing, financial status, spirituality, etc. But we are all HERE because there's a red star somewhere on our airframe. (or in our hearts) My folks taught me to live by "if you can't say anything nice..." I think we can invest a little effort in looking past what we deem to be others' short-comings and focus on what we're here for. Let's leave the mud-slinging to the candidates...and BOTH sides, unfortunately, thrive on it.

G'Day Mark,
Well said. I am with you on that.
Whilst I would normally agree to keep the political crap and other such like
off this site, it is encouraging to note that the true American patriots
have the guts to speak up and recognize a very real threat to not just
Americans, but indeed the rest of the free world.
Until this threat is neutralized, please keep your heads out of the sand and
do not become apathetic as some.
In Australia there is a saying "She's right mate" Unfortunately some believe
that when "She aint right mate"
Take care.

Please don't patronise me, Mark. I was responding to multiple political rants which suddenly invoked all sorts of "socialist communist tin-foil hat wearing" paranoia. If you want to be a part of that, by all means go ahead, it is your democratic right and I support that right, even if the result is just nuts.
I am NOT a socialist (for what it's worth). I served my country for 16 years as a military officer and have the active service medals to prove it. So what? This means very little, other than to demonstrate to you that your preconceived views may not be justified, and the dripping sarcasm of the "fond farewell" towards me might have been premature.
But the economic problems around the world (anyone reading this list would think it's only the USA) which are causing most of the current turmoil are multi-faceted and extremely complex. Indeed, some of the root causes themselves go back to excessively deregulated banking systems and inherent human greed. From reading the comments here, many of you guys should be real happy about that. Deregulation and freedom to do what you want, when you want. Isn't that exactly what you're after? It was George W Bush who had to initiate a Government bailout of the system, which then had to be continued by Obama. I'm not making a personal judgement on either. I'm just saying that both of them had to do what they had to do.
Anyway, the simplistic politically partisan (and in some individual cases quite extreme) opinions expressed here are NOT helping anyone. I am an Australian (and Chris, with due respect, is speaking for himself, NOT for all Aussies) and patriotic about my country. I have many great friends and direct family relatives in the USA too, have visited many times and enjoyed my time there. I hope that not only the USA, but the entire world will emerge from these tough economic times and I am sure they will. But these economic problems, in reality, are not unique to so-called "socialist" Governments and in most cases have brewed over many years of various different flavours of Government - even Conservative ones. That's the reality.
I lament the fact that politics are diverging away from common, moderate ground. The "looney left" and the "rabid right" are both valid terms, and they're getting worse, not better. It IS, contrary to some apparent views, possible to hold moderate political views and still be pro-democracy, pro-freedom, and yes, even patriotic.
By the way, I called some commentary here "drivel". By that I mean just a generic term for partisan political rants. That wasn't intended to be a personal insult to the particular individual/s who may indeed be very nice people to meet over a beer, and I apologise if they took it that way. But certain individuals seem to have turned that around on me and made it personal. You know who you are.
We here and in the USA live in a Democracy where you can vote and nothing will change that. For that, be thankful, or go live in Africa. Don't have a dummy-spit if it doesn't go your way. Get on with your life whichever side wins and have your say again next time around. That applies to BOTH sides. That's the end of my rant (but at least it's not politically partisan). I figure if everyone else wants to have one, I'm probably entitled to one too. Democracy, right?

Mike,
What you call the "socialist communist tin-foil hat wearing" paranoia is
very denigrating.
For you living in Australia it is easy to conclude that you live in a
Democracy and that you can vote and that nothing will change that.
But I am old enough to have widnessed how things changed in Western
Europe.
And here indeed, we can still vote, but the outcome is always a pre-fixed
government.
They do whatever is necessary to keep the power.
For instance granting voting rights to non-nationals or even changing the
law so that nationality is easily given away to immigrants who don't even
speek the language.
The islamic immigrants vote socialist of course, because socialists
redistribute the wealth created by others.
I have seen how our precious Democracy changed seemlessly into a
totalitarian system.
The reality over here is that we're governed by a few hundred non-elected
apparatchiks on the European level.
They even say how the French have to make their wine and cheese.
They came up with EASA, the European Aviation Safety Agency.
Ultimately that's one of the main causes why all RA registered Yaks
(including mine) were grounded in Western Europe.
You simply have NO idea what it costs over here to continue flying.
Some airfields in the Netherlands charge 100 euro (that is 128 US dollars)
for ONE landing!
I may fly for maximally 30 days per year, have to inform the authorities
before each flight.
A this is not my civil right, but just a granted favor, which of course
costs money.
In many countries of Western Europe, civil rights are simply reduced to
the right to pay.
The outcome of the elections in the USA are very important for the whole
world. And for aviation.
That's why I claim the right to comment too.
Even if some people living in very thinly populated hughe countries
consider my kind of reply as simplistic politically partisan opinions.
And why would I, living in Western Europe, prefer a republican President
for the USA: history shows that "Democratic" Presidents often lead into
war:
Wilson : WWI
FDR: WWII
Truman: Korean War
LBJ: Vietnam
And the job usually has to be finished by a republican ...
That's the end of my politically partisan rant.
