On that note...my completely stripped airframe with low time engine is available for sale. $18K takes the whole lot. All assemblies are on dollies or cradles in Central MA ready for shipment. Perfect Reno racer project or just part it out at a profit.
Cheers

I don’t think it is any surprise to a lot of us, that these new laws and procedures initiated under the umbrellas of security are slowly eroding are freedoms and rights with regard to these airplanes. Go fly it and enjoy while you can !

Hi Mark,
Yep, it all adds up to where it's barely worth it. A fair deal quickly becomes expensive when you add all the government fees and import duties.
Also, the mere cost of shipping out of foreign country makes that part too expensive to buy one piece at a time, so you have to get a large order together to defer the shipping cost.
A 40 foot container can run up to $10,000.00 USD today just to ship from a foreign port to a US port and then you still have ground trucking on both ends that adds a few more thousand dollars and then all the other risks, expenses and hurdles that I previously discussed.
If you need any information feel free to contact me off list.
I can also put you in touch with a few different parts guy here in the US.
I also have a variety of parts, new wind screen, new unused rear canopy complete.

For export import licences, taxe in consideration that the L-29 engine was also built to be set on a truck for wiping out fog from runways ! More than 900 were built for that. I have imported an engine for my L29, in France, not as an engine for à former military plane, but as an apparatus for putting out fog. No import licence !

That is worth a try, however, It was originally designed for jets. So says the gov office that
Decides and categorizes that stuff. I told them it was a bad engine for display only. He Didn't care.
But try

Customs won't care what you say it is for. It goes in a classification as
a jet engine and then the fun begins. If you try to lie about what it is
or what it's use is then you risk it being hung up at the port upon arrival
when US Customs opens the container, and then you will pay port fees and
then be significantly delayed because you don't have the proper export do
cumentation from the country of origin and you won't have the required US
government agency paperwork approvals which will take several months to
obtain. In the mean time the port authority and US Customs will have a hefty
storage bill for you.
