Hi,
I am seeking for an advice on chinese parachute.
I bought two new parachute for Yaks. They are chinese parachute, brand new, looking very much like the russian parachute. My "friend" told me that the Yaks have now these parachute as a standard equipment.(???)
So I brought them to a parachute shop for inspection.
The guy told me that they looked very much like russian parachute. Not too bad quality. Good copy.
He knows how to inspect them BUT there is one point on which he has no idea. The material in which is done the parachute is not usual.
The fabric is very porous. He told me that he would not count on it to save his life !!!
Still the kind of parachute is vry specific. It deploys itself in two lobes and he told me that this technique is old fashionned but works well.
Considering this he can't tell me if this technique require porous fabric or if the parachute are really dangerous.
Does anyone have an experience on this?
Thanks to all for any hints.
best regards
Didier

Didier,
The porosity of a chute is kind a important. A number of years ago, I brought two used chutes (US Military back packs which were in excellent condition). however when my packer look at them and at my weight (215Lb) she recommended that if I had to use them, "Head for some trees, cause you're going to break your ankles". Sure enough when I brought my new Strongs, (My packer had nothing to do with it.) the first thing they asked me was my weight. And sure enough, these chutes were less porous than the others. Unless you can ascertain from a Chinese packer or manufacture of the chutes what weight class or limit these chutes will take, and you fit in those limits, I'd take your packer concerns seriously. The Chinese in general, are a light weight species of human beings. It makes perfect sense (to me) their chutes would be made to support a lighter weight.

This weight remark is right. I am more heavy than a Chinese and I want my chute to be my very last chance. Not my very last suit...
I will try to have an answer from Lithuania but without certitude I have paid these chutes for nothing. Even if they look new and good.
Thanks pappy

The porosity may be important when looking at your weight.
However, with a round chute, the size is just as important. 26" vs 28", etc.
So the heavier you are, the bigger your chute.
If you have a square, then size as well and more cells maybe.
I cannot say that the porosity is nothing to worry about.
Let a skydiver test jump it with a spare reserve chute for safety before buying something else.

Hi Paul,
I find this is a very good idea to have it tested in real. i have a friend who is a pro. i also made him jump from my YAK...... no kiding !!! jumping out of a plane which if running fine is a nonsense !!!
I will ask him if he can test my chute. he weight more than I.
thanks for the idea
best regards
Didier

Paul,
Did you mean 26 to 28 feet. Not 26" vs. 28" ( inches). If inches are you refering to panel size not canopy size?
Just asking.
