We're about ready to start a 912UL in a KF-IV for the first time. It was installed years ago with fuel line simply going to the fuel pump then to the carbs. The current 912 installation manual shows the fuel line going to a fuel manifold on the engine and a return line to the tanks.

Do we need to modify our fuel installation to this manifold arrangement. Has anyone done that?

				Clem,
This my take on the new design - pretty much an opinion. First, I put 900
hours on my first Model IV with the fuel system as you describe it. There
was never a fuel issue. It ran fine and started fine. My new Model IV has
the same design as before and as you have. I suspect the new design is to
accommodate all the sensors that are available on the new glass displays -
fuel pressure, fuel flow etc. I do know that there have been instances of
vapor lock that the return line would help mitigate, but I never experienced
it nor to my knowledge did any of the other guys I flew with with the 912.
We would regularly fly in group flights and I don't recall instances where
one of the group with trouble starting delayed a departure. I don't know if
the vapor lock issue is model specific, but in my experience not an issue.
I will likely go with the old design until I find a compelling reason to
change. At present, I don't feel any pressing reason to have fuel pressure
and flow gauges in the panel.
 Lowell
