Using a fixed prop is always a compromise from the start, you must decide
what you need the most (you can't have it all) and by formuli you can
calculate which prop, pitch, length & ratio will be the best in your
circumstances .

There is a lot to read on the internet on the subject, and I feel it is the
most under rated part of setting up an aircraft.

I found it very fascinating and rewarding. It's like setting up a one geared
tractor to serve your particular purpose.
If your could fit an 'in flight adjustable prop' you could have the best of
both worlds, converting your tractor into a 6 speed sports car.

Hi Keith
We a have 582 tailwheel and we run a GSC ground adjustable
prop. The diameter is 56 inches, you should set the prop up to give about
6200 static at full throttle, any less and you run the risk of the rpm
bogging down at the wrong moment.
At this setting we get about 125MPH at 5800rpm and about
145MPH at full throttle at something like 6400RPM. Hope this helps.

Steve and Roger (G-BUSR) in England.

Hello Phil,

You don’t have much of a choice, there are only 2 gear ratios for the
Rotax 912. The 80 hp version has 2.27, the 100 hp version slightly
different. A variable pitch prop is the only way to go in the Pulsar
if you want to maximize performance. The 64” GSC in flight adjustable
is a good choice. My XP has about 1000 h on it with this prop.

Performance (measured/estimated):
Best rate of climb about 1050 fpm at gross weight, sea level, standard
conditions.
Cruise speed: 125 KTAS at 3.0 gal/h
133 KTAS at 3.5 gal/h.
138 KTAS at 4.5 gal/h
Range (18 gal total): 4.8 hours plus one hour reserve at 3.0 gal/h
--> 550 nm no wind
4 hours plus one hour reserve at 3.5 gal/h --> 500 nm no wind
2.8 hours plus one hour reserve at 4.5 gal/h --> 372 nm no wind

Take off distance: <1000 ft ground roll at gross weight, sea level
hard surface 1500 ft over 50 ft obstacle
Landing distance 1500 ft with slow approach

Hi Sonja,
I got hold of GSC a while ago(different team)and he said
they had discontinued the manufacture of the in flight adjustable, but still
had the jigs, but things might have changed again. I had two, one spare,
they serviced my first one and offered me the new version for a very nominal
fee.
