Just did it along the coast. I know you are meant to get permission and pay them money.

Irrespective of the permission requirement (most fly without as far as I know) the transition is quite easy, especially when you are in contact with Brussels Information.

You can either fly (roughly) via Calais, Kortrijk, between the Brussels and Antwerp CTR below 1500 ft to Venlo/Maastricht (what I did) and you are clear of restricted airspaces. Last weekend we were at Manston and one crew got a DCT from Oostende (over Brussels!) to Aachen EDKA at FL 100. At weekends you can also expect many of the restricted areas to be not active.

Nontheless you should be aware of the restricted airspaces and when in doubt ask for clearance.

Lots of experience here.
Just coast in to the VOR south of Oostende, fly east of the airfield,
and proceed up from there. I cross the Belgian airspace multiple times
per year and occasionally even land there, but never have notified or
paid anyone for it. The Belgian ATC's are friendly and cooperative.

Dave, I have flown along the Belgian coast at least 20
times with others or solo and there has never been a
problem. This infers that ATC quite rightly have no
interest in querying whether you have all your paperwork
in place and that you will probably get away with it.
However if you have an incident the Belgian CAA will come
into play and would no doubt hold it against you that you
have not asked their permission and paid 88 euros for the
privilege. You pays your money (or not!) and takes your
choice! Personally having refused to pay the last demand
(for a brief visit to Waterloo on a Charity flight) I now
avoid Belgian airspace altogether.
Regards, David Joyce
