Guys,

While planning the steps needed to cover the fuselage, I have found something I can’t quite get my head around.

At the back of the fuselage where the bolt goes all the way through the flap slider arms the fuselage cage and the tail boom, I can’t figure out how to attach the fabric.

There are no washers to keep the slider arms from rubbing against the cage. This concerned me a little when I put it together initially, but the bold was not long enough to add any washers on either side.

Even though the amount of movement of the slider arms is small, I think it will eventually wear through the fabric if I cover it all the way to the bolt hole.

If I don’t cover it to the bolt hole but jump diagonally from the lower longeron to the rear upright, when the fabric is shrunk it will pull away and leave an ugly opening in the lower corner of fabric.

Can anyone walk me through the steps they used to cover this area?

How about some close up pictures of the fuselage?

My instinct is to buy a longer bolt and put on some washers to keep the moving parts from wearing though the non-moving parts.

Thanks in advance.

Stuart

Tail feathers and wings are all painted and ready for assembly. Ailerons are covered and final tapes are being applied.

Did you test fit the parts with the pivot sleeves over the boom bolt? On my Firefly the weld at the tube junction is enough to hold the arm away from the fabric, almost no contact. I will try to get pictures, perhaps tomorrow.

Yes, I have it assembled as per plans, but then got to looking and
wondering how it all fits with the fabric.

I think the ears of the swing arms are rubbing slightly on a part of the
weld bead. I don't like things that rub, hence the thoughts about washers,
then that led to a longer bolt, etc......

Still trying to figure it all out before I start gluing fabric.

A picture would be great!

Thanks,

Stuart
