Rico,
You are quite quotable. Even your most recent one liner about never having what you want but having more than you will ever need etc (a la Rolling Stones). Even proudly having your venerable Cessna 150 in your signature line. I love it. Is it just me?
You might well know that the majority of us Red Star guys are just like you. Not overly wealthy but with enough drive and incentive to live the dream of owning a radial-powered swarthy airplane of our dreams. And not pretentious enough to care what others may think of our humble airplane backgrounds. Well, except for a few old sore heads and type "A" personalities. Ha. You have well earned your your round-engined oil spewing Walter Mitty mount along with the rest of us who persevered. It truly does mean a lot more to the likes of us than a 19 year old prick kid of a Texas oil magnate with a silver spoon in his mouth and a P51 to fly. I actually feel sorry for the sod not having the experience of working his way up through the traditional singles and trainers to a lifetime dream goal. No envy of that here. Just hopes he can experience the same satisfaction of obtaining a seemingly impossible dream through perseverance. Sooner than later.
Don't ever change. I am damned proud to call you Red Star brethren. Your welcome at our "down to earth" campfire anytime. Flying in flip flops and, "Smoke on".

Guys
For what it's worth, in my 12 years of flying these aircraft, I've seen Red Star go from being the red headed step child to an organization respected for the professional way we organize and conduct our operations and fly ins. Just look at the number of non-red stars who show up for our events nationwide. That says it al...

Geez, Jim...I am a little speechless. But only in the very best way. Your kindness is both rare and highly-valued to a guy whom has spent the majority of his life looking-in from the outside.

I enjoy writing. Heck, I enjoy communication- especially when it's in regard to a shared passion. When my friends were out for football and in shop class learning the things I wish I had, I was sawing away in orchestra, choir and music theory. But my loyalties always ran deep - witnessed by my 1st car. I wanted a 350 Rocket-powered Firebird for sale on the next block. My Dad took one look at it, heard the angels singing and promptly steered me instead over to a friend's used car lot where he "assisted" me in randomly buying a '76 Plymouth Fury - an ex-state trooper car. I learned a lot about wrenching on that heap. And it would start on those ice-cold Wisconsin Winter days when none of my sib's cars would. Soon, my love of Mopars grew into racing. Always on a shoestring budget, my circle track car looked like a discarded potato chip bag on 4 used-to-be chrome rims. I will never forget trying to hand-stencil sponsors on the accordian'd fenders. After that I tried my hand at drag racing, but the beloved "Mopes" were always a lot like R-4360's...lots of brute power on tap that suddenly just...stopped working for some reason. I started flying lessons after burying the sad remains of a beautiful RC Corsair that flew spectacularly...right into the side of a van parked on the side of the field. I found the "real thing" MUCH more approachable than being glued to the ground w/ a joystick in my hand constantly trying to figure out if it was time to reverse my control inputs. (I don't know how you RC guys do it!?) And that is how my life has gone right up until today...trade this / sell that / wheel & deal and VOILA! There is now a fire-breathing Russian stead parked in hangar 21! The guys that said it would never fly again only fanned the flames of determination to ensure that it WOULD. And even though I have the crapiest car on the tarmac...I still fly a YAK! It seems every week I am humbled by the knowledge so casually exchanged on this site. My musically-formed mind envies the engineering-brainiacs out there who see the "obvious" answers that so successfully elude me. But my love of music is all I REALLY know - and it's all I have left of my Pop these days. He woulda' loved this big, oily noise-maker. In fact...I'm sure he does.
Thanks, Jim. It meant a lot.
