Does anyone have a spare airworthy Yak 52 emergency air bottle they would consider loaning / selling me? Primary system is tight, but I have been through my emergency system more than once and am now semi-convinced the leak is the bottle itself. The leak is substantial (...to the tune of complete depletion in 36 hours) and I would like to temporarily install another bottle to see if it holds. I would be happy to pay a deposit or purchase outright for the right price.

 Thank You!

Rico there is only 2 places your bottle can leak from, the fitting and the water drain plug. Spray some soapy water on those two places.

I'm willing to bet it's either your emergency valve or your check valve, or one of the fittings in between.

While you are spraying soapy water. Put some on your Emergency shut off valve. Have you recently done a gear extension test using the ER system to blow your gear down?

				Rico,
Before you replace your emergency bottle, I'd like to suggest a test you
can do to determine if the leak is coming through the emergency air valve.
1 - Turn off the main air valve and make sure the emergency air valve is
 also off tightly.
2 - Using the brake handle, squeeze off all the air out of the system
until you can not longer hear a "woosh" sound when you release the brake
 handle.
3 - Make note of the air pressure in both the main and emergency system.
4 - Let the aircraft set for a least 4 hours. Overnight would be good.
5 - The next morning, squeeze the brake handle and if you hear a "woosh"
sound when the brake handle is released, one of the air valves, main or
 emergency is leaking.
6 - Look at the air pressure instrument and see whether the main or
emergency air is less than what you left it at last night.
7 - Assuming the emergency air pressure has gone down, most likely you
have an emergency air valve leaking.
8 - If you remove the B nuts on the output side of the air valve and
spray some soapy water on the fitting, most likely it will bubble up.

Try this and let me know what you find.
 Dennis

Actually, the bottle can develop a pin hole in it too. Very rare
though. Much less likely on a 52 than a CJ because the 52's emergency
system is isolated from the compressor. I actually had a pin hole in my
emergency air bottle a very long time ago.
