Hello Fellow Listers, Wow! I was stunned when my AeroElectric-List digest showed 25 messages on this subject --
And this after several days of zero messages on the digest.

I greatly appreciated all of the postings and sometimes (mis)interpretations that showed up.

I would like to follow up and expand a bit on what David Lloyd wrote about using the I terminal on the starter contractor at issue
to illuminate a starter engaged light.

He wrote: “It would certainly alert you if the starter was "stuck" in run mode after the engine started
due to the Contactor frozen in the start position.”

That is exactly correct as far as the statement goes, but if the starter gear is still (rarely) engaged to the engine cranking gear
as a result of some faulty mechanical or other electrical reason than the starter contactor being frozen in the start position then the
starter engaged light would not be illuminated.

So it turns out that the “starter engaged light” is not an absolute indicator of the starter gear being engaged to
the engine cranking gear or not, but rather is more accurately described as a “starter contactor frozen (or stuck) in the start position light”.

Even though the I terminal illuminated light may be a bit misnamed or misunderstood it is still a good idea to have one installed.

   Problem solved!
I don't recall ever flying a piston aircraft that had a "starter working"
light. Perhaps it is not a bad idea!

John, Thank you for this. I had not seen it. I do see it is "driven" by +12
 on the diagram you sent.

      Thanks again.

The light that say STARTER ENGAGED stays on after releasing starter button, pull mixture, switch off electrics - your starter contactor has welded (frozen !!!) itself closed
